I agree make a couple calls, at least get them to cover your tire repairs and mark this. If you do nothing, then its not just you that is affected- its all of us the next time the city repeats this kind of thing and we hit a huge hole they dug in the street!

      Re: Killer Pot Holes

I called the City and got passed around for a while, but eventually got to the Claims department. The claims adjuster for that area of the city of off today, but is supposed to call me back tomorrow. Hopefully that goes well.

In other news, I took my car to SouthCentre for it's regularly scheduled service and they had a look at the tire. So far I've been quoted $529.51 for a new tire mounted and balanced. I'm getting them to provide me with a quote for a new rim and a 4 wheel alignment as well. I think the city should pay for all of this, but at the very minimum I need a new tire.

If they start to jerk you around put a call into your Alderman's office. They have a way of making things move alot faster.

billip i feel your pain! dont tell me you spoke with a guy named Loyd Sims, if you did, good luck, or anyone for that matter.

its been over a year since i made my claim against the city for that big rock on glenmore in the contruction zone, caused over $2,000 in damage. they give you the run around and **** like that. so now i got a lawyer, and things should move along a little more faster, but this will take time.

you will have to fix your car on your own right now, and possibly get paid later.

i even had witnesses, so we'll see how this goes. i will get my money back one way or another, otherwise, i dunno, my 'torque' will be misplacing some of their regular road signs.

            Re: Killer Pot Holes

I just went through the same damn thing, only with the highway construction, I hit a gap in the surface that had not been beveled yet, took out all four of my rims, no tire damage but dents and a huge vibration. I wrote letters and just kept on them...I got the wheels repaired at alberta wheel repair for $150 eact repaired and refinished....long story short, the construction company is sending me a check for the damage... so keep on them, use those pictures shouldn't be a problem....good idea to provide cost of wheel purchase as well as repair/replacement quote.

            good luck.

I don't think you will need an alignment, because I got mine aligned, and they said there isn't a whole lot to align on our cars, its fairly solid and all.

                      Re: Killer Pot Holes

I was running my front tires at 36psi when I hit the hole, and I am asking myself now whether that saved my rim from damage? I was running them at that pressure for a couple of reasons, and that was one of them. Maybe if I was running at a lower pressure my tire would have been ok, but my rim would have been damaged? Who knows, only thinking out loud. In any event, if the higher pressure did save my rim, then awesome. I got a price quote on a new one from SouthCentre... $953.22 with taxes!!!

How on earth can they say that with a straight face? BTW - if the rim is bare they can still put it on the balancer to see if it's warped.

MyTires quoted me $470, so they aren't that far off. Pilot Sports are a *damn* expensive tire.

That is the cheapest I have ever seen for the Pilot Sport... thats the problem with them, although they are pretty good I think they are waaay more money than similar performance tires.

For what its worth, I was driving past the offending pot hole today and they had fixed it. Maybe this is some acknowledgement of guilt?
