Ehh don't worry about the cutting tools, I need some better ones anyhow. The ones that came with that dremel suck (as I am sure you found out).

I am sure the FMIC makes a difference, you should try a dyno.

As for picking out a turbo, check it out, 1.8T3t04e from the Vortex FI forum photoshopped together a HUGE collection of compressor maps. Its excellent. I still want a t3/t04e 40 but from the maps its clear that a number of these turbos would be AWESOME.

are their any upgrade turbos that spool up at 1800 other than a k04?

I don't even know where to begin on that....

        1. Spool up to what pressure?
        2. The K04 spools up at 1800?
        3. If the K04 does, why would you want to know another one?

okay i'll put it this way.. which upgrade turbo acts like the stock turbo.. i would totally upgrade mine if i could get one that works like the stock setup but puts out crazy power

Its basically impossible. Where would this "crazy power" come from? There is only so much exhaust being put put into your exhaust to turn the turbo. So you are taking a fixed amount of energy, and trying to turn that energy into flowing air.

            To simplify it:

            more power = more air
            more air = bigger fan
            bigger fan = heavier
heavier = takes longer to start moving

The K04 makes chipped pressure (15psi) at 1800 rpm's or so I guess, but all the maps I pointed to have the line at 22.5 psi.

In theory a much smaller GT series turbo than the GT28RS might spool up that fast with more air flow. If such a turbo existed. However, it would still basically behave like the turbo you already have. So, maybe 2 grand for 10 extra hp!

Edit: A GT12 50 trim compressor map looks like it might be pretty close to a K04. But again, not cost feasable.

A variable area turbine nozzle turbo (VATN) could do it, but they are not all that common and I think they are sups pricey. The thing with standard turbos and turbines are that they are really only efficient in a limited rpm range. Generally, the bigger the turbo, the longer it takes for the turbo to spool and the higher up in the rpm range the turbo will want to operate.
