Re: Dale & Simon WHERE IS YOUR INTERCOOLER UPDATE

No way to get the pics off my camera, have to wait for the Blair ones... I will try to get mine on here soon...

I LOVE THIS FRIGGIN THING .... TURBO spool sound is WOW and it pulls so friggin hard all the way to redline in everygear. 16psi until redline then I shift and BOOM its there again..... No more spiking I hit 18-19psi then it settles at 15-16 and stays there... I think a MBC might let me stay at 18-19 or so....

As for cooling it seems like the stock one would cool the turbo 1 degree every 7-10 seconds where as when I stop at a light with bad boy it instantly drops 25-30 degrees... I can rip on the car for a while and then open the hood and feel my Intake Manifold and its is COLD to the touch

Fitment on the FMIC was FUN to say the least. Dont do this to a bumper u love or you will end up crying when you see the bumper on the car and then look at the ground and see another bumper laying in little DREMEL bits...

As for looks it looks wicked on the car, oh so mean.. like a mouth wanting to eat all the little Honda's up. once the GT28rs is on there then the FMIC will really show its stuff.....

By the way I have to thank Simon for all his help... the man is a Demon when it comes to Install... Of course Blair and Bart were hardcore to, as they were there for the 10 hrs as well....

      thx to all

I can get pics up and on here if I can meet up with someone with a Digi and they can upload them.. at least the finished shots will be up....or some one who uses Compact flash cards.. I can pop my card in there camera for downlaodin

As for the bumper choppin you have to basically hollow out you lower valence and then modify your grill insert holes.... this is on a Golf I believe it fiots fine on the damn squared nose Jetta

The KO3-sport cant do 16psi till redline. What do you think spiking is? You said it hits 18-19 then drops to 15-16. Thats spiking.

What did you use to measure the temps?

Simon, my understanding of spiking is a neddle JUMP which mine does not do just a nice slow curve up to 18 and then goes down to 15-16 smoothly.... Smooth and spiking are two differnet things. And unless me and Simon L are blind my car was holding 15-16 psi until red. It is a VDO gauge so who knows?

As for temps we were using vag.

Well I could be wrong about the PSI at redline, but from what I've read I highly doubt it. Prove me wrong this weekend at FFH!

I am very skeptical as well, I do not believe that it is physically possible to hold 16 psi to redline. Perhaps you are exaggerating a bit, maybe 14 psi to 6,000 rpms or something like that, if you don't really shift at the red line. I have seen pressures pretty much like that in some gears only using a MBC, but if I take it all the way to redline there is no way to get that much pressure. It is difficult to tell in low gears because the needle is moving fairly fast, and it is hard to fight the instinct to shift early.

In theory an intercooler should always decrease the volume of air by increasing the density, so there should be a pressure drop not an increase. This is very puzzling to me as I like to know exactly how and why things work. Perhaps it is drastically less restrictive to air flow, which would make sense because some have reported that replacing the upper and lower intercooler pipes on a stock IC have netted high-rpm horsepower.

You suggest that you may be making less pressure early in the RPM band but then more in the later RPM band. This would look like a flatter, smoother boost curve. However, I think this would maybe happen if the intercooler was more effective than the stock setup while sitting (initially it is cold) but less effective when there is really hot air moving through it (at high rpms). Could you tell if this was true from the VAG COM? I am not sure what sensors are available, can you get manifold air temperature or density?

Assuming that the intercooler is not increasing the pressure by decreasing the density, then holding 16 psi to redline would (if I had to guess) easilly make 220+ hp on the Concept 1 dyno with equivalent or greater air density. Possibly even more. This means that this upgrade is better or as good as, say, the ATP Stage II upgrade that Chad bought, and costs 1/3 as much or less.

In any case I am happy for ya Dale it sounds like you are pleased with your upgrade!

It was a crazy long install (not that I did a lot of work) the bumper triming is the worst part. Anyway I think it was worth while for Dale!! The camera died part way through and need to charge it up to get the pics off!

Dale came by to show me the FMIC. It looks sooooo freaking pimp. We went for a hard drive and popped the hood... the air intake into the manifold was barely warm to touch. Mine is sooo hot it would burn my finger. LOL.

Wicked upgrade.... you'll notice it the most when STAGE 3 is in

OK Update on the whole PSI issue....

it seems as though either my ECU was freaking out or sumthin but as it sits now withg about 500 km on the FMIC it holds 15-16ish until roughly 5000 then settles in nicely at 12-13ish....The car just seems way more powerful at the higher RPMS like it just wants to keep going harder and harder.... I have to get a laptop with a VAG

Sorry for the confusion... trust me I was confused as hell as well....

The car seems to have a crap load more torque when you arent supposed to gain any... oh well just have to go to the Dyno and find out....

Now to decide on a turbo...????????.

Edit: Kris your Dremmel did survive... but I owe ya some cutting discs....
