  • small problem.....or is it?

OK, dumb question, that corrugated black tube that connects to the airbox normally, but with intakes attaches to the tube or has a breather on it is what? I need to know what it feeds (smog pump?), because mine touched my fan sometime lately, and now has a small cut in it, therfore allowing non breather filtered air into it.....anyone know? I'm gona temp it with some electrical tape until I can get another one..........

alex yea its a smog hose.. basically when the temp is like 5C or colder the car will use air from that tube to start the car cuz its warmer or something.. to replace the whole hose is quite a process as its pretty long but if your that worried take it to a dealer and way hey my fan cut this hose on my stock airbox (still right?) and make them replace it warranty wise

It's actually used to prevent hydro lock/clogging. If you open the box, there is a big section and a small section divided by a divider. If suction in the airbox gets high enough (ie, the main pipe is plugged) then the spring loaded trap door opens and the backup hose is used. The door is purely spring loaded, so it cannot open because of engine temps or anything other than an increase in suction.

A bit of tape would be fine - I might even just remove mine all together. If my big hose gets clogged, I don't care if the backup sucks in warmer engine bay air.

geoff you probably can remove it because on 04s that hose is no longer there

Oh I already cut the divider etc when I was doing my big hose - it's just me being lazy.

I have the eurosport intake on my car, and a little K&N breather on this hose.....I'll have to see about the 04's alternative

just wrap it with electrical tape it doesnt have to seal and hold pressure

Or get it fixed under warranty
