its basically just an added amp stuck in the rear, not a noticeable difference though.

you could read my post in your WTB post......that was my guestimation of the work involved......again, the HU's are the same just coded differently, so you could do it in stages.....there are single DIN monsoons aswell....

umm to my knowledge you have to swap every speaker too al since the monsoon are like 2ohm instead of 4.. but i could be wrong.. if you want hot OEM get the delta like me or wait until this fall and if i get bored i'm putting in a NAV and i'll sell this to somebody

If you already have the double DIN, then just a code change is needed to make your deck monsoon, with a Vagcom......to make the rest of the system monsoon, you do need the amp and speakers.....all 8....

I think Ryan is right, the speakers and amp are different...

no, i'm pretty sure non-monsoon speakers are the same as monsoon speakers.... just the amp you'd need.

i dunno bart because people with monsoon who want to add a new amp and replace the monsoon one always have to replace the speakers but you for example with a non mon system didn't have to

I was under the impression that for the monsoon the amp has the crossovers but in other non-amp cars the speakers have crossovers built-in? I could be wrong...

                      Re: regular deck - monsoon

It is a huge process to swap out for the proper Monsoon system. The speakers are definitely different than the non-monsoon setup. The rear two woofers operate at 2 ohms instead of 4 ohms like the rest of the system. As well, the Monsoon amp has built in crossovers for all of the speakers (read: there are no crossovers in the doors - non-monsoon systems have crossovers in the doors, or at some point in the signal path). You also need a Monsoon head unit (it may possibly work without one by just changing some parameters with a VAG-Com).

Having said all that, don't do it. Monsoon systems sound like ass in my opinion, and I have one. I have had 2 other Mk4 VW's without Monsoon and it sounds almost the same. Best bet is to go with aftermarket speakers and amps.
