  • GTI vs. Jetta

I was just wondering what if there was a real big weight difference between a Jetta and GTI. Are GTI's noticably quicker than a Jetta if you were to compare 1.8t's?

Actually, a lot less than 80lbs. According to the VW website, a GTi's curb weight is 2,932 lbs whereas a Jetta's is 2,945 lbs - 13 pounds.

But in respect to looks, GTi's look waaay better. Even the VW website says so, stating - "We have surmised that the GTi is far better looking than a Jetta in all respects. Like totally."

I always thought that they were pretty close. I've ridden in a gti before, and I thought that it felt quite a bit quicker than a jetta, just an illusion I guess.

VW is not right all the time and everywhere screws up, ive seen so many official weight numbers that we would have to check with 2 cars. First those numbers are probably the VR6 GTI and Jetta 1.8T, make sure its same motor, its true its not too much difference, but for some reason, i felt a difference when i drove my GTI at the dealer and a Jetta Wolfsburg BACK TO BACK, so its up to you..

Yeah I made sure they were both the 1.8T But you're right, there are probably variances in those weights.

              Official VW Weight Numbers:

              GTI 1.8T 5-sp.
              2,932 lbs. (1,330 Kg)

              Jetta GLS 1.8T 5-sp.
              2,974 lbs. (1,349 Kg)

              42 lbs difference...

I think that the GTI might get a better launch because there is less rear overhang, and therefore less squat and weight transfer. Every 0-60 MPH test I've seen sets the Jetta 1.8T AWP at 7.2 seconds (lowest test) and the GTI 1.8T AWP at 6.5 (lowest test).

              Is this possible?
