  • static shift points in tiptronic

i have 2002 jetta gls 1.8turbo with automatic tranny..the tiptronic
i dont like the way it 'learns' how i drive. i like it best after its reset and hasnt learned anything yet. that way i can 3/4 floor it and it does NOT downshift...it just accelerates in that gear...IF i want it to downshift i can push down thru that 3.4 detent point. problem is, over time, the tiptronic 'learns' that i want to drive fast and goes nuts DOWNSHIFTing almost anytime i give it some gas...which is NOT what i want.

    solutions?
email me as well as reply post please.

Try driving in the tiptronic mode instead of just "D". That's the only way I drive it now and I find it great, alot less computer interference.

Can this be adjusted with vag-com? I think QuA is probably the expert.

Thats the way the car is gonna act. If you want the car to re-learn the shift points you have to reset the ECU.

When I changed the motor mounts this also made the car shift smoother.

In the cold your shifts are gonna be messed up no matter what for the first 5 minutes. In all weathers if your car isnt warmed up the tiptronic shifting is erratic.

Drive in tiptronic to set your own shift points. Leaving it in Drive and exepecting it to always downshift or shift when you want is impossible.

well of course i relalize if i put it in tiptronic mode i can shift when i want..but even then there is a delay...like as it thinks about what i TIPPED it to do.

perhaps i am not being clear about this.

i DO like the way the automatic shifts when the tranny ecu has been reset and its 'dumb' and hasnt learned. the reason i like it is because say i am pushing the acclerator 1/4 down..and i press it to 1/2 down..it does NOT downshift..it merely goes faster in that same gear...same if i press down 3/4....ONLY if i punch thru that detent does it down shift. thats the way i like it. just like in a MANUAL car if it's in 2nd gear and you push down 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4 it is STILL in the same gear..it just keeps winding up. this should be a VERY simple thing to get the automatic to do. just program in STATIC shift points and not allow downshifts unless you press down past that detent. there must be a way to do this.

There is a delay with the tiptronic but not that bad. I know what your talking about.... I just switch to tiptronic all the time when I want better shifting control .... its not hard to move your hand and when im lazy I go back to drive.

I dont think there's a way to lock it and make auto mode alway static shift. Put a post up on vortex and see if there is a vagcom code to do it... I dont think there is.

There is a write up with different modes with the vagcom the tiptronic can be in sport/econ/normal modes but you must have the Bosch TCU and all Jetta's have the japanese version.

If you find out .... please post =)
