  • Data logging

So Ryan and I were out this weekend doing some data logging on my vehicle with his vag-com. We logged blocks 2, 22, 23, 115 and 120. Here is a graph of the logged torque and calculated hp curves:

Before anyone starts the flaming frenzy, I'd like everyone to know that I realize the logged torque values may not be always accurate. I just graphed it for fun .

As you can see, I'm no where near the claimed 221 hp even on 94 octane and timing advanced. My peak torque seems reasonable however.

Arent block logs all at the crank? So would that mean 195 HP crank and 240lbs of torque?

      Re: Data logging

As far as I know, yeah. So we're talking somewhere in the neighborhood of 166 hp and 204 ft lbs at the wheels. But damn it, the car feels faster than stock! So WTF? I basically need 20 odd more ftlbs of torque in the 6000 rpm range to get to 220 hp.

I think you got better #'s then that. Block #'s change when you start modding and you got some nice mods.

Almost bang on what I got on my 2003 Jetta. I have Revo 4 bar (no sps3, so whatever the flashed settings are), 3" dp (no cat), magnaflow catback, CAI. I saw 250 torque, and 195 hp block 120 on 91 octane.

From what I found out the ECU uses injector pulsewidth (among other things) to calculate torque. Since the 4bar program/FPR has shorter pulsewidth the numbers you are seeing are underestimated.

By the way, where did you get 94 octane in Calgary? I've been looking for > 91 in Edmonton but can't find it.

                hehe nice graph neil
yea i dunno on the accuracy of the 120 numbers.. best bet is to hit up a good (cough) dyno at our 2nd dyno day this spring

one thing i like about neils graph is look how smooth the powerbands are!

                    Re: Data logging

I think I'm going to try going back to the stock N75C valve and see what happens. It looks like I'm not getting as much boost as requested. Especially in the area where peak horsepower lies.

Funny. I have almost the same setup as you and I've done all the same logs!. We get really similar numbers. From you're boost curve you can see you've upped the boost with the SPS3, but the small turbo can't match requested boost at higher RPM's. I don't think changing the N75 is going to help you here. Now you need to look at flow ie. DP, TIP to see if you can get a little more boost in upper rpm's. Or bigger turbo (MBC might be something to try, and check the wastegate linkage to see if it's closing all the way)

Yeah, my next mods are gonna be exhaust and TIP. Hopefully in that order.

I put my N75F (I kept calling it N75C, but stock is actually the F) back in today. I wanna do another log to see the difference between the J and F after the car adapts.

You shouldn't need to wait in order to see the differences between N75 valves.

Kris, are you sure? When I drove to work this morning. I started out only spiking ~13 psi at WOT. When I got closer to work, I was able to spike to ~ 16 psi or so. According to the log, it appears that the ECU is calling for 18 psi. I think I can still squeeze a bit more.

To me, it looks like when I went from the F to the J, the ECU had to scale back the boost. Now, going back to the F, it seems like the ECU is releasing some of what it took away back to try and match the requested boost.
