    Re: Amp Install

The power is brought in from the battery. This is a fuse installed. Which is properly grounded. From there, the rca was tapped into the back left speaker, and the REM was tapped into the 12v plug in the trunk. There is not enough current going from the 12v to the REM to cause any fires.

        Re: Amp Install

Trunk 12v isn't switched with ignition.... so yes, amp could drain battery if that is where the remote lead goes.

That's what i thought. if you really don't wanna run it to the front try and tap into a switched fuse port in the back with a add a fuse.

            Re: Amp Install

The 12v in the trunk is switched. Put a meter to it and you'll get no voltage, unless the ignition is switched on.

That works then. Sort of a pain for typical use. On my 2001 jetta and 2005 passat is is always on. I use it all the time on camping trips. Would be a pain if mine was switched.

                  Re: Amp Install

MK6 and MK7 rear 12V is switched. You can tap RCA's directly off the rear speakers without a LOC as long as your aftermarket amp can handle up to about 8V input on the RCA's which many can. You're factory speaker wires that you connect to can't be very high power, base model VW sound systems typically have about 8V max on the speaker wires. You will just need to keep the gain low, best to set it with an oscilloscope to keep from clipping the input on the amp.
