  • Amp Install

    Hey,

I'm looking into putting subs and amps in my 2011 golf tdi. It requires a line out converter. I can't really find consistent information on how to do the install. Has anyone on here installed one?

I have I don't remember everything but basically it converts your speaker signal to rca so you can hook it up to you amp. I think it's been 6 years or so since I did it. I got my stuff through sonicelectronixs.com

      Re: Amp Install

Correct. Unless your car already has a factory amp, then just run the low level output from the headunit to the amp

        Re: Amp Install

Most cars will have the amplifier built into the head unit. Basically you're going to tap into any full range L/R signals and send that to the LOC. LOC outputs to your amplifier.

Just be aware that if you tap into your front speaker lines and then fade rear it will change the bass output... and vise-versa.

Any LOC you buy should include instructions which will be helpful for you.

I wouldn't say most cars will have the amp built into the head unit. Most VAG cars actually have a dedicated amp as far as I know.

            Re: Amp Install

The way I did it, is I tapped rca cables into the rear left speaker, and rear right speakers. I got power for my amp, from the 12v outlet in the trunk. I tapped into that. Easier than I expected to install.

              Re: Amp Install

You didn't use a low level converter for the RCA cables? Or does the amp have a high-level input?

                Re: Amp Install

Didn't use any convertor, I don't know if the amp has a high level input. I just tapped into the wires with the rcas, and plugged the rcas in the amp and it worked.

The wire gauge running to your 12v outlet is super small for carrying the amperage an amp needs. Typically you would run a dedicated positive directly from the battery (fused), and ground out to something solid in the trunk. You do risk some heat at the 12v outlet, or worse, at your fuse panel, drawing big amps from there.

                      Re: Amp Install

Please be kidding...wiring it through your 12v is extremely risky and you become what is called a carbeque. and if you do not cause a fire your amp will suffer. It is honestly not that hard to run from bat to boot. And are you talking signal power? Like to tell the amp to power on or the actual power source?

You also hooked both of your rear speakers together to the RCA's?
