Good Experience at 5th Ave Autohaus
So my Passat started showing its age a bit. While giving it a spring clean early this year, I came across a few rust bubbles is several places around the car. I went in to 5th Ave and kicked of the paint warranty process. Usually takes 6-8 weeks to hear back. Unfortunately, days before they called back with the approval to proceed, I found another bubble (I was being fussy..). So started all over again..... 6-8 weeks later, approval comes again. 5th Ave gets me all lined up for the body work, and although the paint warranty doesn't cover a loaner, they offer me a 2015 Jetta rental.
Off I go.
Continental Auto Body are the guys doing the work. I had left extra instructions with 5th ave to have them contact me as I had a couple non-warranty items that I wanted to touch up at the same time. Continental was very professional and friendly. They got my work taken car of, which in the end was on the same panels that needed replacing under warranty, so that worked in my favour! They were pretty on the ball and pushed through some additional warranty items that they found once they started pulling things apart. Unfortunately, one panel that needed to be replaced was on a global back-order, so the car sat for a little while.
At this point, the 2015 Jetta 2.Slo was getting a little boring. The base line is a great car for the money, but if buying a Jetta, I'd defiantly step it up a few trim levels. Also, I really wanted to get out biking for the weekend and bike wouldn't fit well in the Jetta. I asked 5th Ave if I could swap up for a Tiguan and I was in luck, as a Tiguan loaner rolled in around the same time. I had quite a bit of fun with the Tiguan. I liked it more than I thought I would, as did my wife (and my brother, who coincidentally is car shopping and took it for a spin). The Tiguans do cost a little more to drive than some other small SUV's out there, but it has more get-up, and decent handling. Worth a drive, if in the market for such things.... Anyways, I carried on with the rental.
There was a lot of work done. Many panels replaced and refinished. In the end, the car was in the shop for 3 weeks. With the delays for parts, my car's visit was longer than expected, but since this was warranty for cosmetic reasons, I really didn't want to rush anyone in to cutting corners. Plus, I was having fun with the Tiguan, so whatever....!
Today I got the car back. The body work looks really good. The car was also detailed nicely upon return. The warranty coverage was awesome. Also, due to the additional time needed to fix the car, the good fellas at 5th ave gave me a very fair rate on my rental.
In the end, all the guys I talked to at 5th Ave, from the Service Adviser, Warranty administrator, and a few others that helped along the way, were all great. Also, Continental Auto Body was very good. I've used all the dealers in town on multiple occasions. I think that in the future, if shopping for a new VW, I'd be swinging by here first.
