Re: Hot and cold start TDI BEW issue

Thanks guys. One of my biggest pet peeves is when you are searching for a fix on something, find the perfect thread about your issue... But no solution. So I'm big on posting back results.

Hope to get after the coolant sensor this weekend. Will post back with an update once I get some road tests in.

    Cheers

Re: Hot and cold start TDI BEW issue

Thanks Stefan! I think I am good now, no more CEL anyway.

Minor update again, I have not had a chance to get the coolant temperature sensor in yet. Took the Jetta to work today and it was pretty chilly start for the car (close to 0 at my place). It took a couple of seconds to get started but started all the same. I will be curious to see if the changing of the coolant sensor helps to improve that.

On a side note, regarding the doggy collar issue. I created a poor man's way to fix it (for now). I used this tape, that I used for a temporary CV boot bellows repair on another car:

I cleaned the hose and the metal part with brake cleaner. Then I did a bunch of wraps of it (about 6) and used a zap strap in the metal side and the intake side. so far it has held up! I will do a proper fix one day but this tape stuff is amazing, for what it is.

        Cheers,

Re: Hot and cold start TDI BEW issue

Very long overdue update on this...

I replaced the coolant sensor in the TDI and it did not fix my hot start issue.

I had my TDi in for an unrelated issue and there was an outstanding campaign on my car for the glow plugs. They got replaced under warranty and it seems as though it also fixed my hot start issue! They did note that my tandem pump does have a leak, so it may too contribute to the issue (have yet to fix that) but it seems for now that the glow plugs were the culprit.

Just wanted to give an update as promised.
