  • Stick with VW??

so i was wondering what the opinion was on me sticking with vw or possibly audi. I got this jetta in Dec. 02 and have had alot more problems than i expected. My dads friend can get me a good deal on a new VW at his dealership in Vermont or somewhere in that area... anyways, i dont know if i want to get another vw, im worried there will be alot of problems. I was thinking of an a4 1.8t or a 330ci manual ofcourse. My dad is going to go to the auction and look for an 01-03 m3 or maybe an s4, but I'm not really sure if i want used... i mean yeah a used s4 or m3 is much better than a used 3series or a4, but this jetta was used with 20,000 miles on it so now im apprehensive about used vehicles. The service manager at VW said, "i would get rid of this jetta, who knows what it went through before you had it." I simply remarked what was the point of it being VW certified and turned in early on a lease? I know that i have a year, but im trying to get everybody's input. Your help is greatly appreciated

Audi and VW are very similar, so if you don't have confidence in one, you might not like the other either.

I will probably never buy a new car, since I save so much money on a used one, and I would rather buy a better car thats used than a lesser, new car. That is simply personal preference I guess.

I have not had too many problems with my Jetta and I bought it used ater a 1 year lease. But it does depend on a lot of things, such as how the car was cared for and just luck of the draw.

Anyhow, I think its a personal choice...

yeah it is a personal choice, i would def. rather have a used m3 or s4, but only with low mileage. However, it all depends on what's available at the auction and the price. Im gonna have to help pay for this car and im not used to making car payments. Insurance and gas are enough for me. I like the 01 taillights on the s4 better than the 03 ones. And i will only go with biturbo, screw that new v8

I only prefer to buy new. You never know the true history of a car... people can lie how can you prove it?
Then again - the amount of interest that you pay on a new car only reinforces how badly you were taken.

Not only interest, but tax (GST here) is huge, plus dealer fees, delivery fees, etc. Tax on my car would have been thousands.

It also depends on if you want a warranty or not. I can live without one, and I mod my car a lot so I probably void a lot of it anyhow.

Finally, I guess partly it depends on how good and patient you are at used car shopping. It took me months and I looked at a very, very large number of cars. I went through looking at Saab 93's, Accord Coupes, Toyota Solara's and VW Passats before looking at Jettas, simply because I could not find a used Saab or Passat etc that I was comfortable with. I just kept looknig at cars until I found the "right one".

PS I am not saying that Jetta was my last choice, but those other cars are pretty swift, and I was looking for something faster than my 97 Cavalier.

You just need a GST number Kris I think your car is a tad faster than a cavalier but you need to watch out for those cavs
