Best Year For a Mk5 GTI

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a mk5 GTI to daily in Vancouver, dsg for sure but which year is the best year? Also any recommendation for maintenances that are a must do for these cars?

Any year will be fine, but 2009 is the year they switched to the Tsi (Timing chain and no cam follower issues). If you get a 06/07/08 make sure the cam follower is done every once and a while as well as the timing belt/pump. I believe they also have a "weak" diverter valve on the FSI's

I see, would you say it's worth the extra 3000 for an 09 model over an 08 for the differences?

I would pay extra for a tsi. You will have to do the updated chain tensioner if it hasn't been done.

Definitely worth the extra. Wish I would have when I bought my 07.

2008.5 is actually when they changed over, so some 08's *may* be worth checking out.

I just sold my 2009 GTI and will echo what others have said here. That is the best year and is certainly worth a premium over the early fsi cars imo. The improvements VW made on the tsi will pay dividends when/if you start to modify too, which is a bonus.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty set on the 09 cars then, which colour is the most desirable on them? I'm biased towards candy white and tornado red atm

Red would be the most rare as all GTIs but not sure if it is the most desirable. Who's to say what is the most desirable though, what I think is desirable might be different than what the next day thinks is desirable. Buy the colour that'll make you happy seeing on your driveway for the next few years not what somebody might think is cool or must have.

I'm looking at eos with the same drivetrain setup and would assume the best year would be the 09 as well?
