Just bought/installed OEM roof rack on my 2012 Jetta. Compared to the old MK4 racks, these are less secure as the end caps are not even lockable. Not sure why they changed the design in that regards. Sure my crappy bike is locked to the bike mount but anyone can just come along, open the end caps and slide the whole thing off the rack. Just throwing this out there for anyone considering a MK6 rack and comparing OEM to aftermarket. I didn’t compare and maybe the yakima’s or Thules have locked end caps? Although I’m disappointed about the lost feature I am not too worried about it. But if I was an avid biker, I wouldn’t trust leaving an expensive bike on there.
