Broken axle?

So, im about 98% sure i broke my axle broke today on the mk3, this happened to my brother AND my father years ago and its the exact same symptoms... Plus the mk3s are known to have the shittiest axles in history. So anyways, this isnt really a question as to IF my axle broke or not. I was just curious, what exactly on an axle actually breaks? Once i get my car back home, what should i be looking for when i jack it up?

I know that people always recommend to rebuild/buy a rebuilt OEM axle for the mk3 cause the aftermarket ones suck ass (seems like its the same case for the mk4 guys too) When my brother last got the axle replaced, i have no idea what was put into it... dont even know if its the same side thats broken.

Curious as to where you heard this? I have never had an axle break on any of my MK3's. The stock axles handled the VRT just fine as well.

George at Tunedub told me that he gets mk3/rado/b3s in all the time for a busted drivers axle. Apparently there's more stress on that one, you have an LSD so itll help quite a bit.

I guess this threads useless now... i can see my axle dangling around. looks like it broke right before the hub. Still no idea what part of the axle actually broke though..
