  • Timing belt , where to go and cost?

Looking to get the timing belt done on a 2008 Passat 2.0 turbo gas
what cost to expect? what all would be needed? where to take it?
    Thanks

Depending on of you do it yourself or take it to the dealership $300-$2000.

The parts to do it will cost $200 USD. The special tools are about $75 USD (most VW repairs require VW special tools, can't get around it, either buy the custom tools or fabricate your own). <- my experience with the jetta is apparently not for the Passat.

VW is about the same price as Audi or Porsche to repair (same company, same parts!)

Here's a walk through for a 1.8T engine but it is similar on all engines

I always have TuneDub do our timing belt jobs...roughly $1000 and George uses 160k km belts....they go over the entire car as well.

No special tools needed, pretty easy job if you are confident with your skill or have done a timing belt before. Did mine in a day with a bunch of other maintenance. Also if you have an auto transmission look at doing the filter as well.
