  • Volkswagen T6 (Transporter)

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has officially unveiled the new T6.

Looking in instantly recognizable, the van has a new front fascia with a slender grille, angular headlights and larger air intakes. Moving further back, we can see rounded wheel arches, straight character lines and a new tailgate with an integrated spoiler.

Bigger changes occur in the cabin as the model boasts higher quality materials and an improved design. Notable highlights include a new dashboard, metallic accents and a high-tech infotainment system with a 6.33-inch display. The latter has proximity sensors that detect when the driver or front passenger moves their hand close to the touchscreen, so it can automatically switch from display mode to input mode. The sensors also allow drivers to use wiping motions to scroll through lists or browse CD covers from their media library.

Power is provided by a new generation of 2.0-liter TDI engines that have been specially designed for longevity and ruggedness. They will have outputs of 84 PS (62 kW), 102 PS (75 kW), 150 PS (110 kW) and 204 PS (150 kW). The model can also be equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that has outputs of 150 PS (110 kW) and 204 PS (150 kW).

In the tech department, the van comes loaded with features including adaptive cruise control, adjustable shock absorbers and a City Emergency Braking system which can automatically apply the brakes to prevent or reduce the severity of a crash. Customers can also order a Light Assist system that automatically dims the high beams when oncoming traffic is detected.

To celebrate the launch of the new model, Volkswagen will offer a limited edition variant called the "Generation SIX." It is based on the Multivan Comfortline and features LED headlights, tinted windows and additional chrome trim. Customers can also order a two-tone paint job and 18-inch alloy wheels with a retro-inspired design.

The special edition also boasts two-tone Alcantara seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a Climatronic climate control system - among other things.

The Volkswagen T6 will be available to order "within the next few days" and pricing starts at €23,035.

Looks nice but I guess this is another model we won't see coming in NA.....

Last picture seems to show a weekender model (common NA name for a van with 2 "jump" seats) or is it the 2 front seats being swivel and pushed toward the back? I'll be happy to see more pictures of the back area of this model.
Looks like the back bench can fold down as a bed, sweet!

Any idea if it will be offered in 4Motion?

Looks like the middle row bucket seats can be flipped on the rail system and pushed as far forward/back as you need.
It looks really clean for a van

Not much to look at from outside, but the rear is like being in a limo.

        Pretty cool.

Almost looks shorter than my van. I loved how you could change the rear layout of the T5's. Looks like you can do the same. Too bad the likelihood of them coming here is next to zero otherwise I would be interested.

Love this concept -- waited years for it to materialize. It was eventually shelved as this would have been a $65k minivan entering a dying minivan segment.

Rumored off again/on again/off again. The Bulli concept may emerge as an all-electric -- but it's not really in the same class as a Transporter -- as it's much much smaller. Transporters have a commercial vehicle underpinning -- allowing them to be sold as comfy people movers or bare-boned cargo haulers.

                            Re: Volkswagen T6 (Transporter)

Many sources have stated that the T6 is a facelifted/refreshed version of the T5 with an updated interior, features and engine choices. A true "all-new" transporter is rumored for 2019/20 -- and hopefully this is the one that may return VW vans to North America.

The model facelift refresh as successfully done with with the T4 (Eurovan) -- where a major facelift was done to extend the product life and accommodate larger engines (VR6, 2.5 Tdi) -- but the model designate wasn't changed. Eurovan T4s sold from 91 to 2003 (2005 if you include Rialtas which used up 02/03 chassis'). Producing the T5 from 2004 to 2019 would have been a long, long stretch for VW -- especially with the new Mercedes Ventris coming to market.
