i kinda figured some people would get mad about my logic... it just seems to me that a Jetta IV is a Jetta IV.. since VW's all break down like crazy, it seems like the most important factor is the warantee. i guess saying its like a 2002 doesnt make a lot of sense, but honestly, since the year of my car.. what has changed? i was at VW yesterday looking at the 2004 GL's, and the only difference is the trunk is shaped a little different and it has this gay-ass chrome strip ******** around the car... regardless, if i keep getting everything replaced under warantee, the only thing that makes it different than a 2002 by that logic, is some of the body-wear, and the engine.. so basically, to me, its kinda like having a 2002 that's been highdriven like crazy and has huge kilometers on it, for the year that it is.. but there's no way i can make the person im trying to sell the car to look at it that way, or any of you guys for that matter... ive decided to keep the car for at least another winter, since its worth at least $19k to me anyway...

I doubt youll get 19k, my friend just picked up a 2001 TDI for 17...so your dreaming (and since its warrenty goes till '05 its like having next years model )

since my warantee goes until 2005 it doesnt make my car a 2005.. i just think since it goes to 2005 just like your friend's 2001 TDI, its not a lot different than having a 2001... because the warantees are the same length. i dunno, i guess im just stupid or a little kid or something.. i cant wait until i turn 16 so i can get my drivers.. mommy and daddy just bought me this car for my 14th birthday and i just drive it with them..

well, that was all sarcasm.. an extreme case to exagerate your point.

Dude, I highly doubt you will be able to get $19k for your car, there are 2001 GTI's on Canada trader going for that much. There are a few 2000 Jetta 2L's going for 15-16k, which is about right. Unfortunately a few mods and an extended warranty will not increase the value of your car that much. You might be better off selling your mods separately. It sucks, but there’s really nothing you can do. I guess you could try, but it probably won’t sell. Also, keep in mind that the used car market is flooded with Jetta 2L's.

WOOHOO! My car is a 2009!! Just kidding....oh, and my window regs went too...and my coils...and a couple wheel bearings....and my hatch latch..it just feels like I'm still driving my 2002 though....

im having my entire tranny replaced on april 15th.. and my throttle body was already replaced. now we're talking.

wow if you look at problems reported per year, the least reliable cars are VW.. they have the most problems reported per year, putting them at the very bottom of the list, right next to Kia. even Ford is far above them when it comes to reliablity/problems. im not here to start a flame war, i love the way VW's look.. infact i love every single little thing about them, except for all the problems i have.

Anyway, back on topic - I don't think $19K is a realistic aspiration. Last year when I sold my GTi 1.8T w/ 33,000kms, I got $18,500. It sucks, but it's a fact of life.

The only other thing I can think of in your case is to look into Lemon Laws. Sounds like your car could be one of these sour, citrusy fruits. But before you do look into Lemon Laws, you should probably find out if there are indeed any Lemon Laws in Canada, because I have no idea. Lemons.

Hey I know how you feel with all the problems, my parents bought my car VW certified and I think that they got ripped off, but it's probably good that they have that warranty cause my car is in the shop atleast once or twice a month. It rolled thru a stop sign about 2 weeks ago so I just got it back from the shop for that as well as the headlights and brake lights "flashing" with the beat of my bass haha. Oh and the car goes thru oil like crazy. I have about a year and a half left before i get a new car and i cant wait any longer.

Is your VW dealer an ******* to you when you bring the car in? they can be really bitchy, well to me atleast...

can you not curse on this forum? oh yeah you could probably get like 11k on a trade in, or atleast around here you could. The resale value is pretty shitty, but the dealership can jack the prices up ofcourse

i drove my jetta to the car wash and back today.. in the 5km drive my cruise control stopped working, and now my brake lights wont turn off..

Your car sounds like a serious lemon. I would look into the lemon laws.... because passing that problem onto someone else really sucks.
