  • Timing Issue Corrado G60 (Large Pics)

Not sure how I managed this guys, but my car is now so far out of timing it doesn't even attempt to fire. I have made no adjustments, just been turning the engine by hand, and this is what has happened. Keep in mind, this is at TDC based off crank pulley, during the compression stroke:

Crank lined up to timing cover arrow

White out to show where the inside cam gear mark is

    Where the O|T mark is

    Where the dizzy is

I've never done mechanical timing, I only really know how to time with a timing light and small dizzy adjustments, so what do I need to know about doing this? Do I need to get the valve cover off? Do I need to be in a specific stroke? Also, since this is an aftermarket cam is there anything I need to keep in mind with that? I've got all the tools, minus the one to hold the tensioner in place while I tighten it's nut, and I also do not have any feeler gauges if I need to take lifter measurements.

Any help and info would be great guys, really hate not having this car up and going.

Did the car run before? you say "no adjustments" but since when? what changed?
It is possible for a worn timing belt to skip a tooth, but highly unlikely on hand cranking.

Do you have spark? Do you have fuel?

start there, and we should be able to get you going.

The car did run before, but not perfectly. Timing belt is in decent condition, no cracks, no wear, looks good. I know I am getting fuel, as I found the plugs soaked. Somehow managed to pop the fuse for the "carburetor" (labeled as such on the fuse panel), but replaced it, so I should have spark. Not really sure how to test spark without having someone to crank for me. I am going to attempt to get everything mechanically lined up, but will probably be a few days before I get the chance to even start. Hopefully that will sort things out.

if you turn the crank by hand, and the cam doesn't turn, the belt is toast. from what i remember the camshaft timing marks are supposed to line up horizontally with the head, but i could be wrong as that looks like an adjustable cam gear. the g60 was also notorious for stripping the crank keyway and/or breaking the tip of the crank off. obviously this would cause an awful out of time condition. you could also jump the starter to engage it so you can see if it's all turning. just make sure it's in neutral and you stand to the side of the car. you don't want to run yourself over.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Timing looks way off. Hence not starting. Line up all your timing marks to the proper position. This will set everything at TDC. turn the crank a few times around and make sure everyone is matching up perfectly and not skipping. I don't think the g60 is an interference motor. A failed tensioner can cause a skip. But if you wanna be certain everyones ok, never hurts to do a compression test

Got the car mechanically timed, fired right up. Today, not even 10 minutes ago, went to do ignition timing, following Bentley Manual instructions...everything ended with a loud POP and the car will not fire.

EDIT: Never mind, I'm just a lil dumb. Car is timed perfectly and running better. Thank you for the help guys.
