well after having fun enjoying the car , tonight i was driving it the car and miss shifted into second the car wouldn't go into first gear,

i rammed it into first now 1st second third are hard to get into and so is reverse what are my options im thinking lift it rip the trans out , pretty annoyed at how missshifting would cause this issue as i was going 30.

Probably a broken shift linkage - this might help you.

He might've just forced the plastic linkage out of alignment but that is an indication of a worn linkages on top of the shift tower of the tranny

okay got the video working , i played with the aluminium piece and it works perfectly fine like that video im thinking its just the cable or something from the shifting mechanism which im hoping it is and that would be less of a headache

ill take a look at it and let yall know nothing from the tranny looked broken so i was confused when it just stopped working damn thing wanted to stall in second gear which shows my clutch it fine and it got me home after i got it in second and road the clutch hopefully it isnt toast but had to get it home since i was close by

is there anyway of me testing if the transmission is okay by pulling on those leavers or , its just literally stupid hard to put back into gear , it literally needs to be jammed in and feels like something is stuck there stopping it , when i jammed it into first 2nd 3rd and reverse just messed up 5th and fourth work fine

Is it just an issue when the car is running? Is it the same with the car off?

its the same with the car off , or on doesn't change anything still wont go into gear im gonna go take a look in a few minutes here and see whats going on

okay middle console removed , and looked at i think its from the shifter area its self , something with the wire now the big aluminium thing on the tranny moves freely but the smaller black one doesn't , im thinking of trying to re align the cable and see if that fixes the issue does anyone have a DIY i wanna swap out the whole shift mechanism the old owner chopped it to make it a short shifter...

The fact that it's 1,2 and 3 and it won't engage sounds like something was mashed and you have internal damage. If it was linkage if suspect 1, 3, 5 and reverse. Just see if you can put it into any gear with the car started.

Re: New to the forum with some questions

i ripped the whole linkage out of place since the old owner cut it to make it a short shifter , yes the tranny seems like its toast time for a new one anyone got a manual tranny with low KM for sale . what a headache seems like its still jamming thats pretty weak of a tranny or it was just abused , as it was grinding in 2nd 3rd and fourth gear and on its way out , also the clutch bearing was making noise

please someone tell me what the darn CV Axle special star is called and the size , i removed everything literally its ready to come out only things left is the cv , the last owner tucked most of the wires and removed alot of **** , this car is honestly the easiest tranny job hopefully it comes off easy!

Also sometimes called 12 point, Double Hex, Double Allen, Aircraft screw head. Get a set of sockets, they are needed all over the German cars and usually in at the most inopportune moments.

I got a set of 6 at Princess Auto for cheap on sale, decent enough quality to do my door hinges. Colin above will probably have much better quality stuff though.

The 1.8t vs 2.0 vs vr6 vs tdi are all differently geared. http://www.vwtransaxles.com/code.html

I would recommend a 1.8t transmission replacement over a 2.0 even though it would technically work. The 2.0's run at a slightly higher rpm than the 1.8t's do i believe due to a lower hp (3.9 vs 4.2 final) so you would be revving pretty high on the highways etc.
The TDI's won't work for you
The VR6 won't work for you
