Volkswagen has introduced the Sport Coupe Concept GTE at the 85th Geneva Motor Show.
It’s being described as a high-tech four-door coupe concept based on the MQB platform with a sleek design and a fresh take on the front fascia where the headlights, radiator grille and the badge merge for a more cohesive look. Also noticeable is the elongated hood and a sloping roofline while the rear bumper incorporates dual exhaust tips. The concept is 4869mm long, 1864mm wide and 1407mm tall while the overhangs are quite short, standing at 909mm front & 1120mm rear.
Volkswagen says the trunk has a cargo capacity of 480 liters while the minimalistic and ergonomic interior cabin comes with a panoramic sliding sunroof and offers “impressive” front and rear headroom while legroom should also be great thanks to a generous 3020mm wheelbase. There are very few conventional buttons and knobs as most of the physical keys have been replaced by a large touchscreen display as well as by touch-sensitive buttons.
Riding on five-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels, the concept adopts a plug-in hybrid powertrain by combining a V6 TSI with two electric motors to provide a combined output of 380 HP (279 kW), enough to grant the vehicle with a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed and a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 5.2 seconds. It can be driven on electric mode for 50 km (31 miles) while in hybrid mode it has an average fuel consumption of just 2 liters / 100 km (117.6 mpg US or 141.2 mpg UK), thus providing an overall range of approximately 1,000 km (620 miles).
