VW Canada Coilpack Recall Letter

BTW - if anyone is as paranoid as me, Northland has coils for about 35 bucks. I have two in my trunk, how about you?

Has any1 blown one of these??? today I started up the car,and the "check eng." light came on, I drove it once around the block to see how it drove, there was no power, it had a funny sputtering sound and a sulfer smell,... is this what a coilpack failer acts like

Well, I had the car towed to the dealership to get the coilpacks replaced and they told me that at this time they are only replacing the failed units but,... they had no idea when they would get any in as there is some shortage at the moment :eek: . They also told me that they would only change all the old style coilpacks if they failed in my car more than once , This doesn't make much sence to me as I would assume if they know there is a problem with the old packs, why not just replace them all with the new style Bosch coilpacks??? Now this is my first Dub, I like my car alot but if VW Canada doesn't get thier head out of thier a$$, well this will also be my last VW product, nice cars but their policies are really pi$$ing me off

I also thought it was ironic and kind of funny that they sent me to BUDGET to get a rental, they couldn't get me a VW car so I ended up with a new PT 2.4Turbo,.... I wonder if it will have any coilpack problems and yes I am a little anit-VW at this moment,....to be cont.

Coil Pack issue really makes newbie whine a bit. You should feel lucky that your car not burn down to ash.

That's funny. Northland (in Calgary) had 73 J coils in stock when I bought mine.

The reason they are not replacing all your coils is because they have NOT RELEASED the fixed version. Js are better, but there have been reports of failure. Rumor has it the new ones are going to be a hybrid of the original screw style (pre-2001, uber-expensive) and the new glue/push in style. So it makes sense for them to use the Js as temporary holdovers and replace them all when the new version is done and tested. VW cannot afford to do a recall and replace every single coil in 500,000+ cars and find out 6 months later that the replacements are also defective.

Actually this is not the first issue, but I do believe if a part fails they should at least have the part in a timely manner, waiting weeks is not reasonable. On top of that, if you do have to wait for a couple weeks for a part they should at least supply you with a comparable VW replacement vehicle (the rental company they sent me to doesn't even have any VW's and wanted to give me a crappy ACCENT, if I wanted to drive an ACCENT I would've bought one.) Now don't get me wrong, I love my car and that is why this whole situation put me in a Pi$$Y mood, I just want my car back,...soon. :(

I am glad you still believe the VW product. I have a friend just cannot stand the coil pack problems and others with his AUDI A4 then switch to a new BMW instead.
