I dreamt about the same thing the other night....Heres what I'm gonna do, to give it a glass smooth finish....Remove the cover, sand with some 200-360 grit paper, ensure you use silicone/oil remover cleaner first, buy some High Solids primer....it acts as a thin filler to cover small blems (use it in autobody all the time), sand it smooth with some 400-600 paper, use high gloss enamel or laquer/clear coat combo....just like a body part...that will allow you to wet sand and polish to a mirror finish....I'm gonna do that to mine soon!! Body matched baby!
Hrm I'm not going for glass smooth mirror stuff, but I don't want it peeling. Vortex threads talk about temperature being an issue but no specifics. Same with primer - I don't really think I need it with krylon plastic paint, but not sure. Gonna wet sand with 400 grit - should be enough for me.

Yeah, heat shouldn't be an issue with my method, after all they paint engine bays with the same stuff....
