  • 04 GTI Problem...

    Hey guys,

I have an 04 gti with a 1.8 5speed. My problem is, some times when I am driving, I press down on the gas a bit and my rpm's jump but it doesn't match me engine speed. Not sure what it is. Its hard for me to explain. It's really weird.. It seems like there is something wrong with a sensor?

    Any help would be amazing!

    Could be a misfire
Is it skipping and sputtering when you're at full throttle?
Do you have an engine light or a flashing engine light?
I'm sure someone on here could scan it for you to see if it's throwing any codes too

It's not skipping or sputtering at all. It happens even if I'm not at full throttle. Engine light is off and it doesn't flash. I scanned my engine like 4 months ago, only code I got was P0002. But the engine light is off now.

I though the clutch was fine... But now that you guys mention slipping clutch that makes sense. So if I am gathering this all correctly, I need a new clutch?

Haha I wish that was an option... I live in a condo. I got quoted 1400.00 and that's clutch, flywheel, axle boot, cv boot, fluids and labour...

Is there anything wrong with your axle boot? What fluids? Don't need to drain any fluids to do a clutch

it depends on brand of clutch that is getting you, it would still cost you $500 for a diy clutch job and labor is not cheap.

Axle boot is fine... Not too sure one why he said he wanted to replace it. For fluids, I don't know why he needs to add other fluids. Pat I see where you're coming from.

topless, thanks for the info. He said he wanted to change the flywheel as well. I can't really do a DIY job on it due to the fact that I live in a condo.

Do you guys think $1400.00 is decent or know if there are any other shops that are reasonable for pricing. I only pay cash.

I upgraded my slipping clutch and flywheel at TuneDub for $1700, definitely money well spent...and George goes through everything on the car as well...CAW does great work for reasonable rates too!
