Is there a big difference between a real kit and a replica kit? Or is it mainly the name that your paying for?

i would say there is a marginal difference.. like some replicas are just pure trash.. and then some don't work at all like replica oettinger skirts.. they won't fit at all because they aren't made right.. but then you have replica R32 kits from shops on vortex that are made from polyeurethane and fit OEM which is great.. i think it depends on what you want to get but its best to stick with the real deal for most kits like 5% of the replica market are good IMO.. it also depends on where you get it because i've seen replica oetty fronts for jettas that look awesome and others that look horrid..

Often the difference is fiberglass vs. polyurethane, or thin cheap fiberglass vs layered high quality fiberglass. Also, any body shop will tell you horror stories of kits that don't even remotely fit and need to be totally cut and modified before they can even be put on the car. Replica side skirts you can probably count on since they aren't too hard to modify. Full bumpers on the other hand need to take a lot of abuse and need to fit fairly precisely.

If you want a body kit cheaper, just go with someone who is designing an original kit but who is not a big name. For instance I think there are a couple new companies who are now selling original polyurethane bumpers for the Golf IV for less than the "big players" such as pzwo.

I was looking at that EIN design widebody kit, but I had found it from a company named Extreme Dimensions for about 1000 bucks cheaper then it was from EIN design. It was made from fiberglass instead of kevlar however, so theres a difference there, but I donno. . . They also have an OTG Kit for like 799, I dont know how much the real oettinger kit is, I think someone mentioned to me it was about 2000 shipped. So Im not sure what I want to do . . . Has anyone heard of extreme dimensions? Or should I just save my cash and get a REAL kit?

Some kits are okay, just do your homework, and don't ask people on vortex that have no experience. Like an oettinger kit that I will probably get, someone had an authentic, busted it up, bought a replica and claims its tougher. What you have to do is go on vortex and assume 95% of the people there have no idea what they are talking about.

pretty much the only thing to watch for is whether or not its fibre glass or poly urethane.. if its fibre glass it could be good too, but i wouldnt trust it. if its fibreglass it means some little mofo is just trying to copy a design and building them in his garage.. if its ABS Hard Plastic, then it means they actually had to use a mold and ****, meaning chances are its going to fit a lot better.

The oettinger (real) is made from fibreglass for the front.

                    Re: Replica kits

really? well.. i still would prefer a poly urethane replica over a fibre glass replica, even if the real thing is fibre glass.

Does anyone know anything about extreme dimensions? I think their kit is fiber glass too, does anyone know who I could call for information on this replica kit? I was thinking about calling them, but I think they would give me a biast response.

I've never heard of extreme dimensions, did you try searching for them on the 'tex?

                            Re: Replica kits

I checked out VW Vortex, and I didnt find any posts. I did some more looking around on their website and they have been in a couple magazines,

                            http://www.extremedimensions.com/mediaspotlight.asp

They've been in Import Tuner a couple times and stuff like that, and aparently they were in Need for speed Underground.

Would Rudy or another autobody shop know about this company? Mabey they've installed a kit from them before or something.

i seriously doubt rudy's will have any experience with extreme dimensions.
