The Golf Sportwagen 4Motion and Golf Alltrak are officially coming to North America for 2016! No details yet, but they have been confirmed. If VW is offering us more variety in the way of wagons, hopefully this will include the Golf R wagon!

Re: Golf Sportwagen 4Motion and Golf Alltrak coming to North America
People might want this instead, Golf GTD Variant:
Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the GTD (Gran Turismo Diesel) version of the Golf Variant.
The Golf family keeps on growing as Volkswagen has introduced a GTD Variant which follows in the footsteps of the hatchback. Prototypes of the model have been previously caught on camera by our spy photographers so we already knew Volkswagen was cooking up a high-performance diesel Golf wagon which is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder rated at 184 HP (135 kW) at 3,500 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) in the 1,750 and 3,250 rpm range.
It sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 7.9 seconds which makes it 0.4s slower than GTD hatchback. Top speed has not been specified but it's probably a bit lower than the hatch which can do 143 mph (230 km/h). Aside from being very quick, the hot diesel wagon is also frugal as fuel consumption stands at only 4.4 liters / 100 km (53.4 mpg US or 64 mpg UK).
The model can be visually distinguished by its GTD front & rear bumpers, honeycomb radiator grille, flared sills and smoked taillights. It also comes with black roof rails, dual chrome exhaust setup, 17-inch Curitiba alloy wheels (optional 18-inch Nogaro available). standard bi-xenon headlights while the suspension has been lowered by 15mm compared to the standard model.
On the inside it gets Clark tartan-wrapped sport seats, black headliner and pillar trims along with illuminated door sills and stainless steel pedal caps. Also part of the package are the checkered black decorative inserts & panels, golf-ball styled gear knob and a multi-function steering wheel featuring an aluminum trim.
Already available on order in Germany, the Volkswagen Golf GTD variant kicks off at €31,975 and can be optionally configured with a €965 Sports and Design package bringing 18-inch Nogaro wheels, tinted windows, red brake calipers and driving mode selection.

Re: Golf Sportwagen 4Motion and Golf Alltrak coming to North America
Road and Track from a little while back said this:
Both [alltrack and sportwagon] should be offered with all the normal Golf engine offerings, including the TDI, and both will also be offered with 4Motion. However, it's unclear what transmissions will be offered with all of the potential engine and driveline combinations. The announcement, made by Volkswagen of America CEO Michael Horn, came a little ahead of the company's planned announcements on the car, so additional details are sparse.
If the Alltrack TDI actually happens, I know several interested parties, including me!Stefan

They will most likely all be DSG. I hate to play the devils advocate but it seems thats all these new diesel AWD/sport platforms are going. The market must hardly be there for the slow shifting clunky stick and clutch pedal urghhh.

Re: Golf Sportwagen 4Motion and Golf Alltrak coming to North America
Well most of those combinations are available it is just the buying public in North America likes to keep their left feet lazy and hence why you guys get no choice. Here I could option a new VW pretty much with any combination of engine/tranny I wanted and that is because my 76 year old neighbour drives a manual, and always has, so companies keep offering what is purchased.Blair
