I don't know if I could handle that type of stiffness and lowness in a city with as cruddy roads as ours. I am currently working on saving for a sport spring/ shock combo for max comfort mixed with looks.

Coilovers. Too low or just right?

I do not want to rain your parade but I had experienced with some coilovers before on different cars. The most common problem is dirt and rocks fill the threads, which make the perch unable to turn. I had helped a friend to get that spring perch move with cans of WD-40 and synthetic lube, hammer the crap out of it, no luck, still can’t turn. Someone told me that a guy needs to use a blow torch to cut the perch out. It is good if replacement parts available with reasonable price, but dangerous to do. Aluminum threads ware out on every adjustment because of the spring compression force. I have seen many armature users on the web that spread out words like “It takes only 10~min job to do…”, it will never the case if you perform the work by yourself. The coilovers is way too heavy comparing to a spring and shocks combo. Therefore, I gave up using it.
The brands I had on my B5 before were KW Variant 2 and Weitec Hicon TX. Both were damping adjustable. If coilover is a must have for you then I would recommend the BILSTIN PSS9. I ride on it once on a AUDI TT, never forgets.“If you think your car is under control, you’re going slow.”

That car is LOW. I have H&R Cupkit and that same Reiger front spoiler on my Jetta. Honestly I can't get in or out of the first entrance of my community college. Its low!
Do you guys get those "salt humps" up there? MD is all about spending money salting the roads. Wherever a salt truck stops they drop a freaking mound of salt and it gets packed down. One of those would leave my front bumper behind.

Evan our roads are not salted here, either sand or gravel which the latter is great for the paint But yes having a car really low does lend itself to some challenges, but I think Peter wants top have the car raised up in winter and lower in summer, but is most concerned with seizing of the coils and then not being able to change them.Blair

With the introduction of the new Audi A3, I may be waiting til that arrives before I sell my car (if those twits actually bring us the 2 door, that is). So I'm holding onto the coils for a good while yet. I'm dropped about 2.75-3 inches which isn't as low as you can go, but its plenty low nonetheless. The ride is stiff though, so you have to decide whether thats what you want.Yuval
