    Re: Help with spring install

You have to undo the driveshaft, which would be a huge pain without air tools.

I have never undone driveshafts with airtools...and every car I've had I've replaced them in....thats what the girlfriend (standing on the brake) and a 1/2" drive breaker bar are for....just need the right tools!

...and I didn't do driveshaft for the suspension. It can be done, a bit of spring compression here...a well place hydrolic jack with metal bar there and hey presto, strut comes out.

I didnt think that you needed to undo the drive shaft to remove the suspension. I do think that it would be easier with air tools though.

I remember seeing an ad one time for a place in Calgary where you could rent a shop for a day, or a weekend. It came with or without tools, and I am sure that you could rent the air tools from this place when you rented the space. They would also likely have a spring compressor.

If we could find a place like that it might work. I dont have a garage yet, and I am not too keen on working in the street. Who else would be interested in a spring install GTG?

I borrowed a compressor from canadian tires, was a nice one too. For everyones info I didn't drop the subframe or remove the driveshafts and it worked out fine. Not dropping the sub frame makes doing the passenger side a little harder but it is still manageable. I used a sparkplug socket (because it has a spot for a wrench on the top) and an allen key to undo the top bolt although a electric impact will work just as well. I would try to get the bay at work for a weekend but it is full of items that are waiting to be shipped so their isn't much room. If anyone needs help though let me know, I have lots of tools and am willing to help out if you supply the beer and hotdogs
