  • Boost leak? / Boost leak tester

Anyone have a boost leak tester or can help me test for a boost leak?
I can make one etc but I don't have a air compressor.

    TIA

    Or maybe I can diagnose it without testing. It's for a B6 A4 1.8t.
Symptoms are fluctuating boost at full throttle. DV is brand new and n75 has been replaced.

Calgary Autoworks did a proper smoke test for me and charged only half hour of labor.

It was instrumental in finding my leaks (I had two).

ps check the rubber L pipe on the NE corner of intake manifold. I've seen two leak from there.

Wish it was easy for me to take the car in but its the car my gf uses and she works random schedules and Calgary Auto Works isn't open on weekends.

Re: Boost leak? / Boost leak tester

Does not look like a boost leak to me. Unless maybe a hose was completely off but still it would build revs normally just with a loss of power. A massive boost leak would throw codes also. Cruising at 3k you would be in vacuum anyway. Since it is an auto maybe there is an issue there?? Is it an auto quattro or a CVT. What happens when you hold it in any of the lower gears and accelerate? Looks to me like how a CVT that is broke would act.

                Just Take it to CAW

                    Its an auto quattro.
If i hold it in the lower gears it'll accelerate hard until it tops out and do the same cut in cut out.

Re: Boost leak? / Boost leak tester

Thought I would update the thread for future search reference.

Went to CAW for a smoke test and only found the dipstick to be cracked and brittle. Changed dipstick but still the same symptoms.
We decided that it might be a turbo problem.

I finally had some time to check out the turbo but turns out the 200k plus turbo is still good with no/minimal play. As I was connecting the hoses back I noticed that the pressure port hose from the turbo to N75 was kind of pinched by the EVAP hose because of the tight routing. Also noticed some sticky gunk(soft ball of glue/booger feel) inside the pressure port so I cleaned it out(otherwise it was clean).

Not sure if it was the pinched hose or the sticky substance but now the car drives like a dream(all relative).
