MK5 DSG repair cost?

Someone here is selling a 2007 jetta with a broken dsg transmission for $1000, was thinking of picking it up and fixing it. Just curious how much it would cost though, couldn't find anyone with information on replacing the trans.

from what I've heard, a broken dsg is bad and extremely costly to repair. What would you use it for? or would you just try and repair then flip it?

could depend whats wrong, mech unit possibly?

I'd just find an used dsg unit if the actual gear box is gone, they are pretty expensive to repair.. The valve body went in our Passat in china and was replaced under warranty, but the quote was $5000cdn even with Chinese labor rates...

I know a guy with a mk5 gli dsg for I believe it was $800 for trans and all the wiring

Well we sold the Fiat 500 for $12,000 to get extra cash for our mortgage down payment, but it sucks not having a backup car.

So I figured if I could drop in a new working transmission for $1000 it would be worth it. Then I might sell the MK5 sometime down the road when I buy a new car.

I don't know what's wrong since I haven't seen the car yet (will bring my vagcom).

I have no problem doing the work, just can't seem to find information on how to go about it. I did find somewhere people saying the transmission is locked to the ECU but that sounds strange.

And for $800 I think I will buy your friend's DSG if I can figure out how to swap them.

The Mechatronic could be the issue, but thats a 2-3k dollar part if I remember right.
