  • Cargo Box the struggle

Winter is coming pretty quick and i want to get a cargo box for the Golf.

I found a couple pictures of the golf with a box on but can't really find the model.
I was thinking about a Thule Sonic Alpine but there is just no way to find a picture of that fitted on a Golf...

So who want to post pictures of what they have or recommendations?

    Cheers

Inno Shadow 15 when I first got it.

    Then came the stickers

I was looking at either the Inno Shadow 15/16 or the Thule Sonic Alpine. The deciding factor for me was the build quality of the Inno compared to the Thule. The base of the Thule felt way too flimsy when compared to the Inno. That and I've heard a couple of stories while working at the ski shop about other roof boxes.

Just got the Thule Boxter, first impressions are amazing. I love that I can access from either side, that you cant pull the key out till its locked, quick clamping etc. Great overall box, cant believe what I can fit in there as well (just did a trip to the Okanagan and had 2 golf bags and a hockey bag in it)
My friend has one on his winter vehicle and we have had 8 sets of skis in it plus poles and other random things. Great looking box as well, doesn't look too big considering what you can throw in it.

For me its either a Thule or the inno, I have heard great things about them as well and love the look.

      My new box

Atlantis 1800 I think it was... loved it, massive, tons of room. Didn't affect mileage that much. Only downside - hatch would hit it on the A3.

          Free invitation to whore!

had the yakima skybox on my old cars, i think this is the 24 cubic foot or something like that. wayy to big for a golf but, i think it looked awesome. Could fit at least 6 snowboards/skis lol

I just looked at Thule boxes. Pulse is their entry one. I didn't like it at all. It looked and felt cheap, and only opened on one side. I will be getting a Force Alpine next week as it is the best mix of dimensions and features (opens both ways) for me. Come lay it on your roof and take a pic if you want (and are close to Hidden Valley).
The other two higher lines, Sonic and Hyper, look good too.

On a positive note, Thule's warranty is good.

I was going to go for the Thule Sonic Alpine but i just measured the box size on the car and well it would almost end up above the hood...

So i guess i'll have to figure out a short option that would still accommodate my 6 ft 8 skis

Great picture guys! It might even be an idea to start a winter mode thread

I have a set of icelantic keeper's at 189cm. They fit in the shadow 15 without any issue. Plus room for 4-5 more sets depending on sizes.

Terrible and old picture of my Thule Atlantis 1600XT (Thule's forever changing the names of their boxes, but little seems to change). From my experience, it has fit every combination of skis and snowboards we've tried - for four adults, including for my tall friends (both boarders and skiiers). And hatch does NOT hit the box installed on a mkV on the OEM bars.
