Posting for a friend, cpinter10. My buddy Chris is having issues with his car and we're not quite sure what the issue is or how to test it. The problem is we don't have a MK4 Bentley (I know...) or a VagCom scanner.
Description of the problem:
While coming to a stop light on MacLeod trail (still rolling), he downshifted and right as soon as he clutched in, the RPM simply dropped to zero. When attempting to restart the motor, it didn't want to fire for a solid minute until it finally hesitated and fired with the assistance of the gas pedal. It's happened a couple more times since then and the EPC light would always illuminate after each incident. With the EPC light on, the idle stays at ~1100 RPM (usually ~800). Sometimes the car will randomly hesitate to start after running fine, and the EPC light is always illuminated. We have been digging into the issue on Vortex and such but haven't yet found a definitive answer. He plans on buying a Bentley (anyone have one for sale?) so he can dig into it further.
The car is a 2002 GTI 1.8T chip tuned (Derek/tirerub's old car)
Could it be a faulty throttle body, TPS or pedal sensor? What's the first thing we should test?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
