  • Turbo Timer?

Anyone got one? Which one, how hard is install etc?

Also there's a GB on a new thing that lets you use the stock keyfob to lock your doors while the TT runs. Also locks doors automatically if you forget.

i wouldn't mind having one but i would have to find a nice hidden spot to install it.. i just drive in vac for a few minutes when coming home, etc then idle for 30seconds and shut it off..long trips are more idle tho

Yah me too, but it would be nice to have an automatic 60 second idle before turning off. Only reason I wasn't interested before it because you couldn't use the factory alarm or keyfob. But with that other device you can.

Of course, now I have to think about the full compustar alarm thing cause it does TT functionality as well as a full alarm - but you have a new key fob.

      Decisions decisions...

I hear the turbo timer is really really hard to install.

From what I know of how they work, I would have to agree with kris.

bye bye immobiliser. sean used to have one, or maybe still does...

or you could take the time to sit in your car for those 60 seconds with the heat maxed out... thats what i do.

My TSi had a turbo timer, easy install on that...I hear though on 02+ cars, its more hassle than worth...

A guy selling them on vortex said he could install both for 40 bucks so I'm assuming an hour (the compustar is a 9 hour job). The new box thing says it does not bypass the stock alarm, so how would the imobilizer be disrupted if it just delays the arm signal?

9 hour install??? No way...I installed hundreds of alarms, including 2 way style with starter etc, would take 1 1/2, 2 hours tops, competely soldered and hidden...I hate quinn security because I worked there, but we did do the best installs....If you know what you're looking for, and have all the wires prepped (in bundles), its nothing....I've never worked on a VW per se, but plenty of caddies, Benzes, Beemers, I would imagine this isn't too much worse!

Shrug - check on vortex. Everyone that has had a compustar is 6+ hours. The guy on Beyond that was going to do mine for 450 (unit and install) bailed when he found it was a Jetta. That's with remote start, sensors etc.

Simon - I'm pretty sure I called Auto Temp and Sound and they also said it was a full day install. Find out from Pat who did it, and I'll call them?

                        Sup man

I got it done at Autotemp over a year ago, and I just left it there all day out of convenience. I thought it took less than 6 hours but I may be drinking my bathwater. It's been a while.

The turbo timer is effective but it isn't necessarily variable. It seems to run the same length of time every time no matter how wound up the car is.

I just called - the unit is 399 reg price, and the install is rated at 9hr flat rate (they have more than 1 guy so it gets done quicker). Bottom line, is install with all the trimmings, factory alarm etc enabled is quoted at 450 bones. I read somewhere the Compustar TT is just a default time - you can set it for 60 or 120 seconds. The Greddy or the HKS determines how long to run the thing based on temps, but that's a bit much. Gred looks real nice though.

120 seconds should be fine for a cool-down.
