  • NEED HELP on wider wheels !!

    hi guys
im thinking buying a new set of rims, maybe a set of tires as well if i have to. i have a mk6 gti with HR lowered spring. The rim im looking at is 18x8.5 with offset +36. The tires im running are 22540/r18. will this setup fit my car without rubbing the fender ? Or what's the best setup for a wider 18'' rim without rubbing issue ? Any thought will be appreciated.

Hard to say man. Vws and Audis can generally accommodate a pretty wide wheel but I wouldn't go much wider than 9-10" wide with the appropriate offsets. Also tricky when you cant adjust your ride height or anything like you would be able to with coils or bags.

Use this great site. Plug in your stock setup or a known aftermarket setup that works and do a comparison to see the clearance difference.

You should tell us what your car is, most people will look at your avatar but if it's for another car then it won't help you.

you shouldn't have any rubbing issues with a 8.5" wide wheel. I had 10" wide et 22 on my mk5 and the lip of the wheel was poking out at the rear. The front should also be okay maybe a little rubbing when you turn

I'm not sure if this will help but I have a mkiv with the same setup as the wheels you're looking at. Not one issue yet

I don't think you can go off the guys examples in here from the MK4 and MK5. The MK6 has a high factory offset I believe 54 or 56? I ran 18x8.5 winter rims with ET38 and the rim poked out, moreso on the front. I'm stock height but if I was lowered I'm pretty sure I would have rubbed in the front. Also depends how low you go. 1" would probably be fine.

Re: NEED HELP on wider wheels !!

Factory MK6 wheels are 7.5" wide, et51. My summers are 19x8.5 et44 with 215/35R19 tires and they sit pretty much perfectly flush. An 8.5" et36 wheel will stick out 28mm further than your factory wheels. This website is good for figuring out offsets compared to stock. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator

As for rubbing, I'd say it'll depend on which springs. If you're running the H&R Sports, you'll probably be able to get away with it. If you're running the Super Sports, you'll most likely have issues. The way I used to have my coils adjusted, I would've been at about the same height as the Super Sport springs, and I would get some rubbing over big bumps.
