So a few weeks ago I installed a new Pioneer head unit (AVH-X1500DVD) in the Passat and its been working perfectly up until this past Sunday. I went out for a little while and it was working normally, but when I came back to the car about a hour later I had no sound, however the head unit itself was working normally. I thought it might just be the antenna adapter that had come loose, so I tried the AUX in as well as the iPod in, but still nothing.
Fast forward to last night, I finally take the Pioneer unit out so that I can take a look at the wiring harness... All of the connections there are still solid. So I reinstalled the factory double DIN Monsoon (Premium 6) unit and I'm still getting the same issue... the unit powers up and functions normally, but I have no sound. To me this means the Pioneer unit and my wiring harness aren't the issue, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Next I checked all of the connections at the factory amp and all is well there. The optional CD changer is supposed to be on a little shelf below the amp, however my car doesn't have it, it just has the plug sitting there for it wrapped in a little piece of foam to keep it from rattling. Since I didn't know it was for the CD changer at first, I pulled it out to take a look and the foam was soaking wet. Awesome. So I wiped up all of the moisture that was around there (the foam was holding most of it) and let it sit over night. Still nothing this morning.
So what do I check next? I'm wondering if the amp got wet as well and is now toast. If I can track down a wiring diagram for all the stereo stuff, how would I go about testing to make sure that the amp is getting power? Does anyone have a factory Monsoon amp laying around that I could swap mine with just to test? In case it isn't very obvious already, electrical stuff really isn't my thing...
TIA
Edit: I just realized where the moisture is most likely coming from... It smelled a bit like glass cleaner and the windshield washer doesn't spray on the rear window, however I can hear the pump doing its thing when I hit the switch... Does the line for the washer fluid run down the driver's side in a B5.5 wagon? It seems like an odd place for the line to break, but I guess it's still a possibility.
