tips to look out for when buying wheels

Hi all, I am planning to look at some wheels tonight. The wheels specs are the same as my 2012 Jetta . 225 45 17 and bolt pattern of 5-112. They are Audi OEM wheels from a 2001. i will be test fitting one of them. I don’t know much about offset but would they be different than my current set? I just need to check that they work with my bolts and make sure there are no clearance issue right? thanks.

You should be fine center bore and offsets almost the same. Test fit on front and check for clearence

You will be fine for clearance, my winter wheels on my mk6 gti were 17"s off a b5 s4 and they fit no problemo.

Check for obvious bends/cracks in the wheels, if there is tires check for buldges/tire damage/etc..

Tires aren't budged, wheels are straight, right bore size, and must be polishable.

update: background story. i have one set of OEM wheels with my summers currently on them. i also have winter tires (225 45 17 also)that need rims which is why i bought these ones for them. so i wasn't too concerned with the rubber on these audis as i only want the rims. i test fitted one and it was all good. clearance was ok. some curbage on the passenger sides but no biggy since it was only $200. cheaper than steelies and much better looking. i didn't notice then but when i got home i saw that they are 1/2" wider than my oem ones. my mistake was not checking the offset. offset of my oem is 54. these audi ones are 35. im guessing i cant reuse my winter tires??

You'll be fine, you can use 225/45/17 from 17x7- 17x8 no problem. Offset will barely make it but you'll be fine too.
