  • Sagging door

I have noticed my 2004 Jetta has a lot of wind noise when in the hwy. The door gasket is still soft and plyable. When I look at the door from the outside it is not flush with the body of the car like the other 3 doors. I have owned the car since new and it has not been in any accidents. I thought that the door might have sagged or some how come out of proper alignment. Many years ago I had an old Chevy that did this and I was able to get a replacement door hinge bushings kit that fixed the problem. I tried to lift of one the end of the open door to see if there was any play - neg. Any ideas?

How I fixed my door sag and Jason's mk3 door sag problem was we jacked under the door with a piece of wood in between, took a few times. Vw hinges are strong, I didn't get my door aligned properly until the front wheels came off the ground.

super common issue on vw/audi's.. i've yet to see one that doesn't sag.. if you want to tell next time your sitting in traffic just look out the side mirror and inspect the side lines of the car and you'll see the window trim and then you'll be sad panda.

              Yup.

Or all the scrapes in the paint on your door sill.

I had a similar issue with my drivers side door on my Jetta wagon. What it turned out to be was the silver - lock stricker bar on the frame of the car. Mine was loose and had dropped down. There are some lines on it if I recall and I re-tightened it on middle line and did some fine tuning from there. Hope that helps.

I had this issue years ago on a Mk2. Asked the body shop that was attached to the VW dealership at the time if they'd look at it. The appraiser went and fetched an apprentice with the correct tool. It hooked onto the hinge and the door lock. A couple of reefs on it and it was done. Took 30 seconds. Price: free.

I fixed my door issue today....Kona Bear called it. The lock striker was loose and had moved. I re positioned it and tightened it down....Now the door closes great and matches the body.
