  • MK4 brake caliper - Steel or Aluminum?

I've been wondering if the OEM brake calipers on the MK4 platform are steel as I think or aluminum as some have told me?

If it is steel, is it worthwhile to upgrade to aluminum?

Lol front are steel, because I polished mine and they rusted in a week, rears are aluminum because they didn't rust. Not worth upgrading unless you want to polish them, or unless it is a hardcore track car, normal track days race pads are more than enough.

So are the rear calipers on all MK4 Aluminum from the factory or was that an upgrade they did?

I hefted my rear calipers and they are pretty heavy, feel like steel.

Yeah, the caliper is aluminum, but the carriers still steel.
