How did the dealership know they were stealing again? I can see why they might know they were released, but to know they are stealing again? I smell a conspiracy.

I'll answer since its my company.

      www.gpspolice.net

You'll find all the information online tomorrow (friday, nov5th) as it goes semi-live. The "back-end" is complete and has been for 6 months with about 10 vehicles currently using the service. We are ready to go "live" pending final commercial approval from the all the carriers (Telus, Verizon, etc.) which is a couple weeks away. I'll answer some questions here that people will be asking.

No, I'm not just reselling some canned, packaged, re-labeled product. This is built from the ground up for us, by us.

GPS Police developed and now sells a device called LiNK which can be installed into anything that moves. LiNK gets positioning information from GPS (big brother in the sky) and then communicates with GPS Police via cellular network. The whole system is really really cool because it's cheap and for the most part invisible because no antenna is visible. There is no blaring alarm siren, there are no blinking lights. This device is meant to get your car back to you quick as possible with those nice big rims (which probably aren't insured) still attached

If you guys have any questions regarding the system beyond what the website explains feel free to call me at work (number is on the site).

Yeah I sold a unit to a vw guy with a grey turbo'd golf (catseye boyfriend apparently). Thanks for the plug "catseye", I hope he never HAS to use it

Price is $750cdn with one year of service/monitoring (240 messages) included. Comes with all the hardware you'll need to install it. I've installed it into 3 VW's now so I've got a good idea how it's done, pretty easy really. I'll install it for free to card holding NVD members.

      Some features:
AutoGuard = if your vehicle moves beyond a few hundred meters you'll get a text message / phone call indicating such which in turn we can then begin tracking the vehicle feeding the cops the information so they can recover it.

Immobilize = if your vehicle is stolen traditional way, just press the immobilize button (or call us) and we'll make your car (safely) stop moving and get the exact location.

Locate = simple locate with speed, heading, position, ignition status, etc.

Smart Track = everytime the ignition is cycled on or off you'll get a notification of it.

Battery Back-up = if someone (theif) pulls the battery, you'll know about it and be able to track it for up to a couple hours

BTW, I test drove the Smart ForTwo today... slow but really really fun. I can't wait to get mine in 4 weeks!

The Vehicle Coordinator for my area drove one last week & he siad they were pretty cool. The City was testing them, but I am not sure if they will get any or not. He drove it when it was really icey out & said it handled itself pretty well.

        They are pretty cool.

How's it different than a lowjack (besides being available here)? Definately need an option to feed the location to the owner, and not the cops.

Lojack uses cellular telemetry - small device in car transmits a cellular registration (ping) and is picked up by a cell tower, based on which cell tower got the registration they can find your car. So depending on density of the cell towers your car position will provide a resolution of several hundred meters or maybe several kilometers.

Its a fiarly good system because it works. But where it lacks, GPS Police excels.

If someone were stealing your car (towing) how would you know? You'd only find out when you go a see your car is gone, by then, its could be too late. GPS Police uses early warning measures (Guardian, AutoGuard, SmartTrack) to indicating within minutes of your car being jacked so you/we can take measures to get it back without damage and get the thief.
