  • Enabling DRL?

I'm a bit backwards from all the threads I've seen, I want to enable DRL on my MK4 Jetta.

I currently have a Euroswitch and OEM bora HIDs with the direct adapter harness from ECS tuning.
I'd like to get the DRL working again as I tend to sometimes forget to turn the switch on.

I was thinking of having the city lights go on (or maybe the front fog lights + rear city). Anyone have any experience with doing this?

I can ship you a wiring pin kit if you need.

Thanks Rob, that word file is very helpful. I figured it would just be tapping or switching a wire (or two), looks like this is actually a lot more involved than I initially thought!

I might take you up on that wiring pin kit Colin. I'll let you know.

Going to pick up the Fog light harness today to wire in those mk5 projector fogs!

In my mk4, I wired the DRL's to the fog lights, the DRL relay is used to direct where the power comes from, the output being the headlight bulb, the power either coming from the ignition switch or the headlight switch.

Have you rewired headlights so your high beams to stay on with your low's?

I always loved the look of the votex kit, your car is looking great!

Isn't drl just the city light thing on the Euroswitch? Unless you want the rear lights to stay off. I just use the city light function and turn the dimmer all the way down during day times. You'll get used to it after a week.

              Re: Enabling DRL?

I kind of like the idea of my rear city lights being on as DRL, but I think I'll just wire in the fog lights to be the DRL. I am not sure if I'll be able to do everything I want with the headlights.

Ideally I'd like this functionality from the lighting starting from the switch being turned all the way to the left to be:

Switch in off position - DRL front fogs (fogs with only half the power going to them)
Switch in city lights - City lights + DRL front fogs (good for going through tunnels and such)
Switch in Low beams - HIDs + rear lights + DRL front fogs (no front city lights)
High beams - HIDs + high beams + DRL front fogs
Front fog - HIDs? + front fogs
Rear fog - HIDs? + front fogs + rear fogs

My first step is to get the fog DRL to work automatically again without having to turn the euroswitch to city lights.
