  • Do the MK4 rear coils have a lower perch mount?

Swapping to Eibach pro kit suspension, just can't remember if the car should have rubber mounts for the bottom of the rear coils?
    I know there are upper.

I think it does, but if so, then I'm outta luck.

You can re use the oem one for most coils, but you don't have too. I didn't use mine cus I wanted more lows.

I'm going from coils to cupkit, noticed that there wasn't any rubber for the lower side of the rear coils. Damn. Got the car sitting with rear suspension in parts.

Do you know the part number?

I have no idea... Why do you want the rubber bits?

I figure I'll wear through the protective coating of the springs by having them rubbing against the car rear subframe.
May also cause abrasion to the frame and create rust.

In general, my understanding metal on metal is bad?

The front springs are metal on metal, and they have no issues. i wouldn't worry about it.

IIRC there is a small aluminum insert that is press fit into the rear perch, but there is no rubber on the bottom, just the top.

My MK4 never had any sort of rubber perch in the rear. The only rubber perch was in the front on top of each coil.

Oh boy peoples. The rear spring had rubber on the top only. Nothing on the bottom, just spring on metal spring perch. In the fronts OEM struts have a rubber band between the spring and the lower strut body.

Thanks Colin! I knew there was supposed to be something there.

Hmm none of the cars that i have worked on have had that lower packing. And i've worked on so many mk4's, both newish and older. Definitely interesting.

That lower packing is press fit into the beam. It is already there, you don't have to source it.

Oh cool, never knew about that, just assumed that it was straight steel.
