  • US Golf 7 Preview

I can't imagine things will be all that different for Canada, so here are some release time frames and more info on the upcoming MK7.

The short version is that we expect that the Golf 7 models offered here will be very similar in price to the existing Golf 6 but with quite a bit more standard equipment. The TDI will be the exception which should be offered at a lower starting price. GTI models will arrive first at the end of May/beginning of June followed by 1.8TSI Golf models in July and TDI models in August (as 2015 model year cars). The factory in Mexico is slowly getting up to full production speed wanting to ensure quality first and quantity second. As is typical in new factory line setups, it is easier on everyone if the build complexity is limited at the start, so initial cars showing up will have all the basic equipment, but things like optional LED tail lamps and the Performance Pack will come within a few months time. Our understanding is that Volkswagen would like to offer some options that we haven’t previously gotten on the Golf before (like adaptive cruise control, park assist, etc., etc.) but those options will come later. Overall though, we are looking at getting more bang for our buck with this Golf 7 offered in more flavors than any Golf previously – Golf, Golf TDI, GTI, e-Golf, Golf SportWagen and hopefully GTD.

I see that there is more info over on vw.ca now... Sounds like we may not get 18" as standard here, whereas the US will. http://contents.vw.ca/models/golf/go...2015golfgti-en

I'm really liking the tornado red on the MK7 gti. Looks real good.

I'll have to look it up again, but I believe only the R and eGolf will be made in Germany

*Drool* That R32 looks sweet! Not very impressed with the Standard interior, maybe it was the beige that washed it out.
I will have to put some $ down on a GTD if they offer the option of 4motion.

The R will be made in Germany for the first year or two as the new Mexico plant doesn't support AWD platforms yet.

Also worth noting is that the North American models are getting a regular e-brake, ditching the electronic one so many people seemed to be worried about.
Rumour has it the nice seats usually only available in Europe might be an option in the Golf R.
As Ponto said, the R will be imported from the Germany plant until the Mexican plant is capable of supporting AWD for the MQB platform,
And it looks like it will be 4 door only, but with the choice of 6-speed manual or DSG.

Looking at the pictures of the Mexican plant, it looks state of the art, and very promising.
They even say it has some technological advances over the Wolfsburg plant.
I really can't see the N/A build quality suffering this generation.

This was confirmed a few weeks ago. The North American market will only get the 4-door, but we'll have our choice of transmission.

This. Although from some of the talk on Vortex, it sounds like it isn't a true panoramic sunroof... when you're inside the car, it's no bigger than the sunroof on the MK6 apparently.
