  • Blown Hazard Switch?

So I am trying to get the signal lights on the MK5 style mirrors I installed to work. I decided to pull a wire into the hazard switch connector.

My research shows me that Left turn signal is the black/white wire in position 3, the right signal is the black/green in position 2, and the ground is the brown (of course) in position 6.

So I hooked it all up and plugged in the hazard switch, did a test and all I heard was a "click" and now the turn signals don't work. I undid the connections and it still doesn't work.

I figured I wired it wrong so I've checked the diagram but it looks correct to me?

1 - Can anyone confirm my wiring diagram is correct?
2 - I checked the fuses and they are all right, so did I fry my switch?

take out the switch and smell it and see if it smells burnt

Doesn't smell burnt. If not the hazard switch, what else could have been blown?

Pull the switch and figure out if you have 12v coming to the switch. If you do, jump the wires to each side assuming you are correct with the colours and see if you were right. If the lights work jumped, you fried the switch

unfortunately this is also a relay, not just a switch, I can't jumper it.

Here is the diagram I'm using, I've tapped into the wires in position 2 and 3 of the hazard switch (on the left in the picture)

I wonder if I managed to damage the load reduction relay?

            Re: Blown Hazard Switch?

Need a better pic of diagram

Check and see that you have power going to the switch
Is there any other items not working? Cruise? Interior lights? Headlights ect?
            Start and drives normally?
            Any codes in Vag com?
also may sound dumb but did you double check all fuses? With a test light?
            Hopefully the J519 is okay!

              Re: Blown Hazard Switch?

I can't remember what year you have, but looks like and mk4 switch is pretty cheap. Looks like stock is pretty low on the west coast, but an order is due any day.

Like Natty said, find your positive and confirm it with the wire colour and go from there.

I checked the fuses with a multimeter and turns out one was blown, maybe 2. I do have a bag full of them but of course can't find it now when I need it haha.
