not really because thats driver skills and your tip doesn't count for that since its not hard to push the gas down and hold your foot there (not being an ass sorry) but real manual driving requires good skills.. i know i'm not the best manual driver out there and I know i can probably get beat by a car with less power because the driver is better than myself..
Real 1/4 mile times and closed races determine the best.
And as for the catback exhausts 2.5" or go home.
QuA
you make me lol. and i mean lol hard.
first of all, 1/4 mile times are the WORST way of determining which chip to get, the WORST!. Most of the guys on the vortex all run low 14's with a chip and even a few mid 13's. Uh.. everyone in calgary can run a low of mid 15's and i'm sure we don't suck that badly. And skill has everything to do with it, you havent perfected your launch and you'll get a shitty 60' time and that can throw off your 1/4mile by half a second!
second of all, for catback exhausts? 2.5" is not always best. As is proven by Khyron's before AND after dyno. So it showed a huge improvement from a 2.25" exhaust. kthx.
and I'd like to quote a great man here..

simon is right.. shiz when i went to race city i didn't know how to launch worth a crap.. my 0-60s were crap and my 1/4 was 17.8 then 17.1 then 16.3 was my best.. thats some shizzy skills right there.. i've since improved on my launching by playing with my gtech
You are writing what I wanted to type but was too lazy. =)
P.S. Can I kiss your mom too?
YOU SNOOZE YOU LOOZE SUCKA!
AND NO ONE KISSES MY MOMMA EXCEPT ME WHEN I SAY "HEY THANKS MOM FOR BAKING ME A PIE AND DARNING MY SOCKS" AND SOMETIMES HER BOYFRIEND WHEN HE SAYS "HEY WHERE'S MY SUPPER"
mikey dude don't think were hating on you please.. i'm just speaking from personal experience.. i know you had to get a TIP for the reasons you stated before.. nothing is wrong with it for driving fast.. we just need to 'learn' our skills before we can get that extra quickness down
I am honestly not taking things too seriously, just amusing myself with a little post-war to distract myself from work! lol

You're right! Obviously everyone who buys a chip will be faster than stock, within a certain range.
By comparing it to stock. If 10 people say "Hey, I installed this chip and now I lurch all the time" , that's a red flag. If those 10 people say "Damn, power comes in much smoother" and their dyno plots are less jagged, that's a good sign. There may be no metric but you can certainly make comparisons.
The problem is, no one shows dyno plots comparing the chips, so you can't see how the plot got more or less jagged!
On a related note, technically speaking the more boost that a chip makes the less suited the boost control mechanisms of the stock engine are. For example the diverter valve or wastegate valves use springs that are matched to a certain pressure level. By this logic, the fastest chips would feel the least drivable, unless other mods are made to support them.
I would spit in their face and go somewhere else. I have a boost gauge - that doesn't mean crap.
Spit in their face eh... well, I didn't do that. But thats why I don't go back there for service no more... well one of the reasons. Save that conversation for another thread.
If you don't accept dynos as reasonable proof of gains, then you might as well quit now. Nothing is absolute.
I accept dynos of my own car as proof of a gain on my own car. However, I wouldn't necessarilly tell others that they would get the same gain on their cars, or that I was measuring the chip instead of the car (because I wasn't).
You can tell who's voting just because they love their product (which in its own way carries it's own weight).
I dunno, 90% of all products sold suck, but people buy them all the time.
The best reviews are by people who have had different chips in the same car, or at least have owned multiple chips.
Sometimes. There are those people who just always see the grass as greener on the other side of the fence, etc.
If you say "Prove there are dinosaurs", and I hand you a bone, do you say "Not enough - get me another!"? At some point you have to accept things on faith in your research.
Take TVs. I want a big screen. I walk into a store and I decide which one has the best picture. It's subjective and there is no accurate scale of "betterness". But after reading reviews, you find a majority of people like one over another, you might want to go check for yourself.
Thats not how I shopped for my TV
Anyhow, you can see what the best picture is, because you are judging appearance and you can measure appearance by observing it. You can't see what the best chip is, because you are not measuring what the chip does, you are measuring engine performance.
Again, it's scale. If our before dynos are close, and my after dyno was 40 HP more than yours, I can and will claim with 100 percent certainty that my chip is superior.
No, you CAN'T. We could put it on my car and I could LOSE hp. It is not an additive system, you can't add parts that independantly give you gains and guarantee that you will produce even higher gains. In some cases the sum of 2 mods may be MORE than their independant gains, and in other cases the sum of 2 parts may be LESS. You might have lucked out and found the "perfect combination" of exhaust, chip, downpipe, etc but that does not make the chip itself better.
But I can tell you that if I get better numbers with a chip and cat back than someone else with a turbo back, chip, intake and a FMIC I will be feeling pretty good about my chip selection, regardless of proof.
You should feel good about your car if you are pleased with the results. Thats why you should do it.
You shouldn't then post up knocking the other guy's chip or FMIC or whatever, and saying that you have indisputable proof that your stuff is 'better' than theirs.
