                  Re: Revo in Alberta!!!

So, just for comparisons sake, and to kinda help myself along, I did some comparison shopping on power increases for all the 4 major chip brands.....some of you may already know these numbers, but this makes me feel better! Oh, and these are manufacturer claims, not individual numbers from dynos, so no claims to accuracy!

                  Upsolute :212hp 221ft/lbs

                  Revo 3 bar :209hp 234ft/lbs
                  Revo 4 bar :221hp 243ft/lbs

                  APR 91 oct :209hp 242ft/lbs
                  APR 93 oct :215hp 247ft/lbs

                  GIAC 91 oct :215hp 225ft/lbs
                  GIAC 100oct :230hp 235ft/lbs

Of course, all the MSRP's on these were $499 (I would imagine US).....They all make claims that they are undetectable by Vag...

                  APR switching is $150-$230
Revo was something like $250+ on matrix.....

I just may have to jump on the bandwagon, the Revo is looking very attractive!!

i might do the 4 bar cuz the new FPR is like 50 bucks big deal.. but i would like to keep decent mileage although B6 A4 1.8ts come with a 4bar FPR and passat 1.8ts too so i dunno

They *claim* that under the same driving conditions as stock that you will produce equal to a 10% reduction in fuel economy....the numbers are only about 10 apart, and I think that 10 can be made up elsewhere (on my car at least) with exhaust and DP and stuff.....I'll see what the prices are first....

                        Re: Revo in Alberta!!!

so do you guys know how different octanes of gas affects the revo chip? does it automatically adjust to account for 91 vs 94 vs 100 octane??

and as for the 3vs4bar fpr...if we're just running a stock turbo, is there any advantage to running a 4bar fpr??

                          Re: Revo in Alberta!!!

4 bar FPR feeds more fuel to make more power.. the SPS 2,3 devices are used for octane settings default would be 91octane

                            Re: Revo in Alberta!!!

With the stock turbo, the 3bar fpr should be fine. By the time you start leaning out due to maxed injectors, the turbo is out of breath. If turbo upgrade in your future, get the 4.

With SP3 you can adjust for the 94, 100, or whatever you want. If you set the thing for 10/10 it will downgrade itself to whatever works (not the best way to do tuning though).

I'm hoping the SP2 will let me have 91 and 94.

Yeah, I read on their site that with SPS3 the programming automatically will adjust to the octane, boost and timing even though you have it maxed. They recommend against it, because there is the possibility of operating on the edge of the tables. It'll work, but just not as efficiently as it could.

                                Re: Revo in Alberta!!!

This thread is both amusing and sad...

Here are a couple of things I have to say on the subject of chips.

                                1. There is no way to tell what the results will be on your car.
                                2. All of the manufacturers tested their own chips with different setups.

So comparing the numbers of torque and horsepower that the chip-makers say is pointless.

                                Also some things to remember:

                                1. There is only so much boost that can be made by the stock turbo.
                                2. The program used by the ECU is really not that complicated.
                                3. All of the companies who have reverse engineered it know how it works.

Although I do not like to throw out too much second-hand knowledge from Vortex, I know that some people who tried the 4-bar program had to go back to the 3-bar, and that a couple Revo dealers no longer do/recommend the 4-bar fpr program.

It does not make much sense to me why you would need a 4-bar FPR since the existing fuel setup is not maxed out with just a chip.

If you are comparing these chips based on what people on Vortex say, you must realize that every Vortexer just votes for the product that:

                                1. They themselves own. or
                                2. Is the "latest fad".

If you look through history, you will see that at different times there were huge fads in which everyone jumps on board a particular mod. Eventually it settles down and people realistically find out that it is not such a big deal.

Anyhow, Revo is new and so I guess I can see why a lot of people are excited to try it. However, I can already see the posts coming where previously un-chipped people who have no basis for comparison start posting how they got Revo and it is the "best" according to their "butt dyno" etc etc. Then it just creates a viscious circle where new readers begin to believe unsubstantiated opinion as fact, and they themselves go purchase the product and make their own claims.... Sigh.
