Re: K04 Turbo
what I meant by this is that derick stated that it should be fine on a stock engine, which is true. but get a k04 that doesnt have a great history of being reliable, and throw on 20psi and well I dunno how long it will last.
and i meant premature failure for the turbo, not engine.
Here's a quote from a K04 user on vortex.
"K04-001 (the bolt on for the transverse VWs) has basically the same compressor side as the K03 "sport" (the difference in inlet size is about 1mm, not 5mm), it has a different exhaust turbine that creates a more favorable pressure ratio. The K04 CAN make more power than the K03 "sport", and considerably more torque down low. The difference in peak HP is about 10 or so, maybe even less. You won't see any of this without proper software or tuning."
- not saying he's the end all of ko4 knowledge, but he knows from personal experience.
ps. yes the ko4 does give gains, alot more area under the curve and a healthy dose of extra torque. but imo from a k03sport to upgrade its not worth it, but thats just my opinion!
pps. my honest suggestion would be to wait and get your APR chip from C1, run the 91 and 93 octane programs and get used to the power, 30hp and 60ftlbs of torque is a drastic improvement over stock and you might just find that you're happy with being chipped. then, if you really feel its too slow for you, get C1 to throw on the k04 file (you can switch between programs with the cruise stalk) and try your luck at a ko4.
