  • New Mods & Future Plans

Well I got a couple of new "mods" (if you can call them that) recently. I got all 5 windows tinted 35% and it looks awesome. I also got a wicked black pearl license plate frame (from DriverGear - the one without any writing). Yesterday I ordered a personalized license plate (just about died having to pay that much for it). It will say "BILLIP". That should be here in about 6-8 weeks.

As for the future... I'm looking at getting some smoked side markers (the turning signal ones and the ones on the front rub strip). Here's an example of what it should look like:

Also, all this talk of the new Jetta GLI has got me thinking... maybe I should see if someone wants to trade their BBS RC's from a GLI for my OZ Aristos (and some cash)? I'm not sure about this one... just a thought that came into my head. Here is an example of what it would look like:

Anyways... let me know what you think of the smoked side markers and the RC's.

Oh yeah, and Blair, do you think you could bring your old antenna to the meet so that I can see what it looks like on my car?

You got it Bill I will bring that big bad mk3 antenna for you

Car will be looking good, I think the RCs would look good, but if you want some new wheels gunmetal w/polished lips would look hot on Imola!!!

That's awesome Bill! Where did you get your tinting done and how much did it come to if you don't mind me asking?

I got my tinting done by Tinting Illusions, which is basically just this guy named Jarod. He was recommended by Trevor at SouthCentre, and apparently he does all of SouthCentre's tinting. He is a super nice guy. I haven't rolled down my windows yet, so I don't know how close it comes to the edges or how good the edges are... so I'll have to let you know. Apparently he took the door windows out to tint them. He gave me a smoking good deal because Trevor called him for me... so I don't know if you guys would get that same deal. I'm not totally sure I should post the price up on the boards.

I'll let you all know what the final analysis is when I finally roll down my windows... and I can post up his phone number later too.

Well first off Bill, the car looks HOT! The tint will really give your car a whole new character. As for the markers, smoked would def look good. Can't really go wrong with those. For your wheels, I actually like the Aristos better than the GLI BBS ones IMHO

Thanks for the comments guys. The tinting sure does change the character of the car. Just for clarification, none of the pictures above are my car... but my tinting looks almost exactly like that (except I think that's 15% and mine is 35%).

I'm not sure about the wheels either. I like my wheels, but I also really like the RC's. The only reason I thought about it is because I could probably swing that pretty easily and for pretty cheap, and I'd at least be a little different from norm (which I don't really have to worry about I suppose as there is only 1 other Imola 20th with Aristos in Calgary).

If anyone knows where to get smoked markers (turning and rub strip) let me know. I kinda want their "smokedness" to match each other, and hopefully somewhat match the smokedness of my tails.

I agree that the Aristo's are a better wheel.

You could go euro-rubstrip, that would look excellent on the 20th.

The 42dd lighting products look good, if a little more expensive. But with their customer service might be worth it:

I've got some smoked 42DD I can sell. I bought the clear Pizzies so I guess I don't need the smoked ones anymore.

Sorry Bill, I've been looking to replace my pure black ones for a while. You're more than welcome to have mine if you want, for free. I got a ticket once for them because light couldnt get through, so this way no more tickets.

I should be able to make it to the meet on Thurs. I did the DIY tint on my side markers and rub strip, and think it looks pretty good. There is a slight orange tinge to the rub strip markers, but when lit at night, they definitely won't get you any tickets. The nice part about the DIY, is that you can keep applying coats of the translucent black until they match the tinted strip on your tails (for GTI owners anyway). Feel free to check them out
