  • MK4 1.8T Exhaust Suggestions?

It's about time that I upgrade the stock exhaust in my GTI. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions or opinions. I'm looking for improved sound and performance but I want more of a low rumble sound and not a high pitched squeal like a wide open civic. The car is currently stock with apr stage 1 software.

Should I go 2.5 or 3 inch? Any reason to pick one over the other?

Any particular shops you would recommend?

    Thanks for the help guys!

I only upgraded my downpipe to a 3" downpipe mated to my GLI rear section. It is quiet when just cruising and gets a bit louder during WOT but not much. It is what i like and it gives you best hp/tq upgrades for your money. The catback section is a tiny bit of power but more for sound.

Don't go with an ebay catback if you want a full exhaust.

Do you plan to upgrade the turbo at any point? If you do then i would do 3" the whole way back. If not then i would do a 3" downpipe to 2.5" catback because there are the odd time there is fitment issues over the rear beams with larger exhausts

I ran a 3" DP to a 2.5" catback on my MK2 1.8t swap, and it was perfect. No drone, ever, and plenty of sound when you stepped on it. The APR kit is super nice, but as you will quickly learn, there are a million options. APR will be on the expensive side, where something like a magnaflow kit will be around 700 bucks.

I'm running full three inch catless on the gti with a magnaflow resonator where the cat would be and then muffler at the very back just inside the valance, deep bass like noise at idle and cruise nice and crisp at wot

I have a full 3" turboback exhaust from eurojet. It sounds good to me and really understated in city driving. You're welcome to check it out anytime send me a pm.

I have eBay turbo back. And as Sean said I wouldn't get it. It can be made to sound alright, but lot worth
The time and money. The magnaflow muffler and res from 42dd wouldale it sound great though.

My wife's jetta has 3" turbo back with a resonator and magnaflow muffler. Sounds real nice. Has some rasp to it when you get on throttle but its not annoyingly loud. Can hear the turbo spool up quite nicely with the windows down.

It's unlikely that I will go any bigger with the turbo. I was thinking APR but at almost half the price, the 42DD is quite tempting. The eurojet has also sparked my interest!
Either way I was planning on full turbo back.

the turbo spool sound gets louder in the turbo back for sure. and I get the occasional pop here and there but only when Im rev happy and get into it reaally hard. which is rare.

B&B 3" turbo back, the best setup IMO. I hear they make the APR setup.

The b&b is quite impressive! Found a turbo back setup for $1100 plus shipping!
