  • Now this is a Beetle!

Yeah I can't really remeber his name... "something, Myles", i've got his card around here somewhere.

I've met him a few times and he's a pretty cool guy. Friends with Ken @ C1. His car is fairly stock the last time I saw it but he does have a lot of cool things like a brake booster hidden in the car (for drifting), kick-ass skid plate, neat Rally related things...

    Yeah,
I'm pretty sure that's Miles McEwing who just replied in the Driving School thread. If I'm not mistaken, that beast is fully rally prepared. I think the first pic was from the last CSCC RallyCross held a week or two ago.

I think Miles also figured out how to override the drive by wire in the Beetle so that you can properly do some left foot braking without the throttle just cutting out. (Do share Miles.)

Holy Cow, Where do I start?

The Body shell is a 2001 2.0 auto, we swapped EVERY single nut bolt wire accessory except the wiper motor, with a 2001 1.8T Beetle, we cannot use sunroof cars for racing, and turbos only came with a sunroof.

The car is still drive by wire, we just swapped one wire from the brake pedal switch to defeat the computer shutting down the throttle during braking

        Car specs:
full k-04 swap, wilwood brake valve (not for drifting, but for adjustability), guyon cage, 6-point harness, terratrip 303+ rally computer, DMS 55mm piston rally suspension, full aluminum undertray, puckboard body protection. Problably a hundred other things I forgot.

Steve Harris at Autobahn did all the bodywork. If you saw the car originally you would be amazed at the job he did. Highly recommended!

The car does duty at SOLO 1, SOLO 2, Ice racing, rally and road racing. At the Rocky Mountain Rally last year we beat 2 of 3 Factory Subaru WRX rally cars on our way to third place, we were leading the other Subaru, but John and Clark Paynter pulled an amazing final stage out of the bag, night stage, we had lights they didn't, they managed to beat us by almost a minute!

Looking forward to the NASA Pro 'Open track Challenge' again in April where we will run 7 road races in 7 days on 7 tracks, last year was a riot and this year should be the same.

New toys for the 'bugasaurus' We now have our Garrett t3-04e turbocharger custom built by majestic turbo in Waco Texas (shameless plug 1-800-231-5566) these guys build land speed record cars, great prices and super work (Kevin drives an 1100HP Harley!!) We are building an air/water intercooler setup and moving a bunch of bits to less damagable places, Kevin figures we should be 360HP and about 500 ft-lbs of torque, after seeing everthing else they have built, no doubt.

Come out to World of wheels and see us! or better yet any of the rally events! always happy to share information and help when I can. At World of Wheels we will also have our Indycar there! 810HP at the wheels.

        Cheers to all
        Miles

          Blah blah blah,

I forgot the Quaife, the lowered ring and pinion, and diff bolts (to avoid the factory self-machining tranny case). I keep hearing about coil-pack failures, never heard of it before! certainly drive the crap out of my car every minute and never had one go in 20000km of race miles so far (Lucky I guess)
